@declan90 I tried that after the phone call and they didn't reply.

LV do actually specify in their T+Cs that ASHPs are covered as part of the building, so that it likely who we are going with. A bit more expensive (£80) but policy expert not worth the aggro for us.

Yes! It turns it is. Tesco insurance.

They only issue was a (gentle) slap on the wrist for not telling them about the work when the installers were here. Also I may have under valued it because I was not prepped up for them to give me 'of course', as an answer.

Lemonade also responded to my query about ASHPs and said yes and it is covered for storm damage if the wind is 55mph or above. (This was my super cheap plan B if Tesco said no).  

To be clear, this is Buildings insurance. I never get cover for Home Emergency - for the ASHP I'd call Octopus or whoever I was covered with - for the rest I don't think it is worth the money.

@lucia I'm with Tesco Insurance as well! you mean I should have told them about my chimney stack removal, oops. 🤣 I had better tell them about the heat pump installation!

Having an ASHP installed and already got solar & battery storage. 

Struggling to find a Home building insurer who will accept these upgrades and provide insurance cover. Any suggestions ?

Our home insurance is up for renewal, and I’m checking to see if anyone has found insurers that explicitly cover heat pumps as part of the primary heating system.

Some providers in the past have hinted at coverage under optional home emergency add-ons, but policy wording can be vague. Has anyone:

  • Successfully claimed for a heat pump breakdown?
  • Found insurers that fully cover repairs/replacement (not just emergency fixes)?
  • Been denied coverage due to maintenance requirements or system age?

Also curious if Admiral, Aviva or Saga have updated their policies… historically, they’ve excluded them.

I changed to Ecclesiastical as my previous insurer Policy Expert said they would not cover the heat pump.

How has your experience been with Ecclesiastical?

@editor Mars, my insurer AVIVA covers my HP, solar and battery storage for the regular perils under my building insurance. In terms of additional breakdown cover, I found this article helpful.

@kevinpotts thanks for that. I’ll add them to my list of companies to check out this week. Just saw my Tesco premium is half the price of my current Lloyds insurance. I find these exercises so draining!

@editor My experience with Ecclesiastical so far has been good.

I had a leak in a garden shed which unfortunatelly shorted my battery mower and it was unrepairable.

In conversation I mentioned it to a followup sales person who immediately put me through to claims. They asked for the details and the cost of the replacement mower and within a few days I received a cheque. No messing about filling in forms, proof of payment etc, all done over a short telephone conversation.

Now I know this isn't a heat pump claim but it did give me a good indication of how they would behave so, yes they are expensive, but it looks like you really do get what you pay for.
