A friend of mine is getting quotes for installation of a heat pump. He has only managed to get one response so far from EDF who subcontracted to a company called CB Heating.

Without coming to the property and doing a survey, they have quoted him for a Daikin 16kW EPRA High Temperature system. I have done several different types of heat loss calculation on his home and have come up with a maximum of 10kW.

The quote doesnt include any radiator changes which suggests to me they intend to run it at high temperature.

It also includes a 3 H HT wall mounted unit (ETBH 16kW), which I think it probably a buffer/Low loss header/Volumiser.

Do all Daikin installations have one of these? Or can they install a system without?

I believe that the Daikin HT units do all require an indoor unit. I cant recall exactly what it has in it but its more than just a volumiser. And a '16kW' HT Daikin is nowhere near 16kW in many circumstances. Unfortunately its quite difficult to get hold of the capacity tables, their technical support have refused me three times ('ask your installer'), but with persistence (and possibly by giving them bad reviews on their feedback portal) they eventually caved. 16kW and 14kW tables as provided by Daikin attached.

Also I get the impression, both for the medium temp and HT models, that there is really only one, maybe 2, models with a bit of software 'peaking'. I could of course be wrong.

@jamespa Thanks James, Am I reading the tables for the 16kW model correctly and that its maximum capacity at any temp is 11.91 kW. If so how on earth can they badge it as a 16kW model??

@bontwoody I can't be certain you are reading them correctly but my reading is the same as yours and I ask the same question.

Perhaps it's Daikin's way to combat the tendency to overestimate the required capacity which seems, reputedly, to be prevalent amongst some installers.
