Written in 2009 by David JC Mackay (then Professor of Engineering at Cambridge) this is a brilliant book covering all aspects of sustainable energy in an accessible way. There are two sections, in particular, which address domestic heating (Chapter 21 at p140 and Technical Chapter E at p 289). He makes good use of the example of his own home to illustrate many of the numbers.

I have my own copy but it can be read for free online at withouthotair.com .
