Yes, I saw that article too.

In fairness, I can easily understand the position of the elderly, disabled, visually impaired or other pedestrians who are unsteady on their feet. However, it really does feel as if the council are just saying "no" and not working with the guy to find a solution. Patently obviously, roadworks often have equipment that needs cables laid across a pavement so there are solutions available (flat anti-trip cable housings, for instance), and it wouldn't take the council much effort to provide reasonable steps they'd accept in order to say yes.

Of course, the pavement already seems to be developing a trip hazard with all the red tape being thrown around....

Yep, that was my thoughts.

It probably needs some "approved" options from some organisation that the council can use/signpost.

I suspect they are being told to cover their backs by lawyers and simply say no.

Any idea what organisation could provide an "approved" list of devices/options or is there already a list available somewhere?

Am just asking out of curiosity rather than a personal need.

I'm aware there is a "red book" for safety at streetworks that the various councils all try to adhere to. However, how they do that is not standard and, for instance, Hampshire County Council have a process for applying for cables on or over a highway that has one prerequisite being a £5m public liability insurance which is obviously WAY over the top for a pensioner wanting to charge his EV.

I would expect something like Pavement Cable Protector | Free Delivery to be reasonable, but what do I know?
