Not sure if people agree but biomass is not a sustainable, renewable technology and we came to that conclusion years ago when opting for a renewable heating option.

Itis often promoted as a carbon neutral fuel, but this is not entirely true. When biomass is burned, it releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This carbon dioxide was previously captured by the plants that were used to create the biomass. However, it takes many years for these plants to grow back and re-capture the carbon dioxide. In the meantime, the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere can contribute to climate change.

In addition, biomass can be harmful to the environment in other ways. For example, harvesting trees for biomass can contribute to deforestation. This can lead to soil erosion, water pollution, and the loss of biodiversity.

Carbon capture and store is (rightly or wrongly) a key part of the UK’s net-zero strategy to allow gas generation for peak time usage. It sounds very much that the total carbon foot print has not been accounted for such as the transport for the fuel in this so-called strategy.

Clearly the operation (or no be exact not operating) of the Drax biomass facility in order to increase their profits, shows the contract terms were not tight enough and allowed the supplier to “game the system”.

BECC if the capture is effective is one of the only negative carbon power generator methods.

Whenever you come up with something foolproof, nature builds a better idiot.
