@justinsb Similar experience here, I'm on my second meter for MMSP, its now gone back to be "re-calibrated", it was never connected.  MMSP seems to baffle the installers

My understanding of the MMSP scheme is that the equipment is supplied pre-calibrated, and should only require 'correct installation', and 'configuration' of the ASHP controller, to let it know that the equipment is installed and connected. It is not rocket science.

Having done this type of work for more years than I wish to remember, I can appreciate that someone who has not been adequately trained, would struggle with the concept of 'correct installation' and 'configuration'. It is probable that the equipment has been taken back for 're-calibration' because they have either, not installed the equipment correctly, so it is not measuring the correct values, and hence showing incorrect results, or that they have not configured the ASHP controller to identify and correctly interpret the signals from the MMSP equipment.

You could suggest that they read the instruction manuals for both the MMSP equipment and the ASHP controller, or alternatively hire someone who knows what they are doing. 😎

@justinsb

I'm speechless at the 'professional' service you are receiving. 🙄

We’ve just had friends that have installed a PV system. The installers hooked it up, connected it and there was no handover. They put all the apps on the their phone and didn’t tell them what the passwords were so they can’t access their batteries or PV.

Bizarrely, their array is producing more power than the total kW amount of their panels, suggesting the panels are probably “bigger” than what they ordered kW-wise.

@editor

It is very few days of the year in which our 4kW PV system produces the maximum 3.8kW, and at this time of the year the peak during the day is normally below 2kW.

Therefore to get above the full rated output would require a PV array at least double the size.

It is more likely that the readings provided are actually incorrect. Does your friends have a Smart meter or other meters against which checks can be made? What equipment has been installed?

Have your friends downloaded the manuals for their equipment? Manufacturers often have a standard password set in the equipment, such as '0000', which is often detailed in the manual. If the installers have actually changed the password then your friends will need to ask them to provide the details.

@derek-m, they’ve got a smart metre and he was reading the data off the inverter which was something like 1/2 kWh more than the total of all their panels. I’m not sure it’s peaked again.

For the access, the installers installed the app on their phones and didn’t bother telling them what the password was… and it looks like they used their own (the installer’s) email address so they can’t do a password reset. It’s crazy.

If they are reading kWh then it totals throughout the day, so can often be higher than the instantaneous kW reading. For example, our 4kW PV system generated 9.4kWh today.

If they cannot get their installer to reset their phones and provide the password, then they may be able to get the manufacturer to perform a reset. Have they obtained the manual to see if there is some form of reset procedure?

In 2013 I installed a 4kWp PV array (+ Steca inverter) to the south-facing roof of an extension I was building on our South Devon home. It wasn't ideally situated, with a bank behind the extension that is as high as the roof itself, and a large ash tree to the west. Needless to say it hasn't quite paid out yet.

More recently I started to investigate moving the array to our field, which also has a good southerly aspect. I was pursuaded that it wasn't worth moving (cost of scaffolding etc), and as a result I've just installed a new 5.60 kWp array in the field  - 14 ground-mounted Trina Vertex 400W panels, connected to a SolarEdge SE3680 inverter and 10kWh SolarEdge Energy Bank battery. Its early days with the SolarEdge system, installed only 2 weeks ago, so no real thoughts on its performance yet.

There's no 4G mobile signal where we are, so no smart meter option. However, we do have an Economy7 meter, so charging the battery overnight at "cheaper" rates to use during the day is worthwhile at this time of year. One thing I've been surprised at is that SolarEdge don't give homeowners the ability to set up overnight charging time windows, it has to be done by the installer. So, every time I want to change the setting I have to revert to my installer and get them to do it, which seems very antiquated. My first attempt at setting a time window resulted in me buying 12kWh of overnight electricity (10kWh to fully charge the battery from empty), and the next day giving back nearly 7kWh to the grid for free as it turned out to be sunnier than forecast. So, back to my installer again to get them to reduce the time window....

@alan_w It's your Battery/Solar not the installers or Solar Edge..... Why don't you get the password from the installer and find out what you need to do to change it yourself?

@alan_w My PV system was commissioned on the evening of 12th. August 2022 and the following day was the best day for production that we have so far seen. We have 21 Canadian Solar panels totalling 8.1kWp. Spread across house roof, an adjoining flat roof, the workshop roof and 10 panels are ground mounted in the garden. On that Aug. 13th, we produced 41 kW/h. These panels each have their own Enphase micro inverter and these are wired to the Tesla Gateway; we finally had the Powerwall 2 installed on November 3rd. and have been able to more fully utilise the solar energy produced and as we are with Octopus Energy, we signed up for Agile and Outgoing Agile tariffs. The last month or so hasn’t seen a lot of sunshine hereabouts (or anywhere else in the UK as far as I can gather!) but yesterday, we had 6.2 kW/h to help our daily consumption out. Each day, I await the daily details from Octopus for the Agile 30 minute rates and then set the Powerwall app to charge the battery overnight. I like to help out with the load on the grid and, when like a few days ago, I took 28.12 kW/h from the grid for £0.13p, I am quite happy!

I am having a Daikin ASHP installed in February along with a Sunamp Thermino ePV 210 heat battery and an Eddi energy diverter. I am currently pursuing Evergreen Homely about the smart heat pump thermostat controls as the Daikin is not fully integrated within their app. If the Homely will do basic control at this stage, I would prefer to have it fitted now and then incorporate refinements when available rather than installing a ‘dumb’ controller only to rip it out to install the Homely later. Regards, Toodles

  1. <span;>Finally, my brand new system is up and running. I can't stop looking at the solaredge edge app. So I have a south facing roof but have some shading from 2 trees. Though the trees are on my property, unfortunately, they are protected. Any way I can get rid of them?
    <span;>I have. 20  Trina solar vertex S 420W (8.4kw)panels. 20 Micro inverter. 6 kw solaredge inverter. Hot water diverter Solic 200. I am looking forward to my production this year. They estimated around 6000kw/year because of the shading. I will update on productions later once I have a full month.  I live next to Edinburgh right on the cost.
    <span;>In Scotland, you can ask the gov for 5K for PV installation and 6K for batteries, an interst free loan. I asked for the 5K fir PV install. I have to pay back over 10 years £41/ month. It went very startight forward. If anyone needs any help, let me know. I will be happy to guide you to the right direction.

    <span;>If anyone is interested in a very reliable company who does a great job for a great price, let me know and just pm me. I can aslo tell you the price and more deatles

16kw Samsung TDM ASHP. 8.4kw PV, power optimizers 20×420watt panels 6kw SolarEdge inverter.

Second hand panels approx 5.5kw split over East West setup.

Still building home battery V3 approx 22kw.

Grant Aerona heat pump on a fully open circuit radiator/UFH system, will change to Samsung, unless I can hack the Aerona.

Solar thermal, for hot water production.

MyEnergi Zappi and Eddie.

All controlled and monitored by Home Assistant.
