@lucia Having just read that comment, a ping on my iPad took my attention as a friend had just emailed me enquiring about buying a heat pump installation: I quote…

“Looking at replacing our glo-worm 1960's gas boiler.

It would be a well known make... Samsung or Hitachi, and would include a new tall hot water tank   480mm diameter and radiators changed as required included in the price.

Price around 13k which includes government 7k grant.”

I have invited him round to chew the fat - I have my own ‘Visit a Heat Pump’ network y’know! 😉
Regards,
Toodles.

@editor I feel I can talk Daikin with reasonable confidence and from this hub, I feel most people are happy with Vaillant and probably half a dozen more makes. I will mention the conversation but as @Lucia has mentioned, more anecdotal than fact just yet. Mars, I know about your fridge freezer; we have a Maytag, went wrong after 13 months when the control board burnt out (I think it cost me £150+ about 11 years back - been OK since though. Is that a £20k install or £13k install. Either price is bonkers. Certainly no lack of disposable income kicking about, if someone can justify either figure.

@johnmo I’ll be seeing the chap in due course and will find out a little more. I posted it as it seemed very apposite! Toodles.

I have now had a chat with the prospective ASHP purchaser; I discussed noise levels and he is involved with local planning meetings on behalf of a residents association and aware of such vagaries.

I suggested some questions he might ask tomorrow when the prospective installer visits him. £20K is on the high side if what he outlined is all he intends to have. I have suggested he also contact OE (his energy supplier already anyway) as I would have thought they would be somewhat less pricey.

I also mentioned the MCS guideline chestnut of 50 degrees C flow temperature versus properly sized radiators for the temperatures he wants in various rooms. I think he may be trusting the installer’s words more than I would so have suggested questioning any bold statements and crib sheet replies. I have suggested he ask me if they try any clever replies! (Am I being cynical?!) We also had a discussion about the recommended temperatures as seen by MCS and I suggested asking about his preferred temperatures to see what their reaction is!

Regards, Toodles.
