Quiet mode: Samsung air source heat pump
Hi, I'm sure it's been asked before but my Samsung ASHP has a quiet mode and a quiet mode scheduling. What does this actually do and is it recommended?
So far as i am aware it just limits the compressor speed and possibly fan speed thus limiting the output.
4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
@profzarkov I don’t think Graham Hendra rates the quiet mode function very highly - just go to reviews and read his article there. I tried to cut and paste the link here, but it won’t work for me. Toodles.
Toodles, he heats his home with cold draughts and cooks his food with magnets.

I find it a very useful mode. However, it seems to behave a little bit strangely. When the outside air temperature is above 10 C, then it seems to make the start-up procedure from cold more efficient than in standard mode, and the Water law settings are followed. On the other hand, when the outside air temperatures are much lower, it seems to pay no attention to the Water law settings and the leaving water temperature and electricity consumption gradually rise with the LWT going into the high 40s. This higher LWT and high heat output usually means that the thermostat switches the pump off , so I don’t know what would happen if I left the thermostat on a much higher setting. It also makes heating DHW more efficient, so I would recommend it for DHW heating and space heating when OAT > 10C. Now that it is colder, it will be interesting to see how it compares with standard mode regarding costs.
