National heat pump day April 12th
Good morning. Today, April 12th is national heat pump day. It's the half way point in the heat pump year. If you work out how much your heat pump has cost to run since new year's Day and double it, that's what it will cost for the whole year. Enjoy today and please post a picture of your unit below. come on, heat pumps are boring, let's have a tiny bit of fun.

This is a 10kW Midea (Hyundai) in a 220m2 1980’s House in Germany. The rate is €0.40/kW which translates to 3480kW. Weather has been relatively cold so far this year.
The "Gas save" number is a bit off, but comparing with our old gas boiler with 95% efficiency at the €0.12kW price cap in Germany, the saving is still about €3000. My total installation costed me less than €6000. That's amortisation!
Retrofitted 11.2kw Mitsubishi Ecodan to new radiators commissioned November 2021.
14 x 500w Monocrystalline solar panels.
2 ESS Smile G3 10.1 batteries.
ESS Smile G3 5kw inverter.
Nice idea but I'm afraid that this sort of thing gets my sceptical whiskers quivering. So I've looked at my daily data and it doesn't work for me- even allowing for a generous 'rule-of-thumb' margin.
My metered consumption (ie measured rather than invented by the pump) since new year's day has been 1754kWh. Consumption up to nyd from when the ASHP was commissioned last July was 1701. For the 2023 consumption so far to represent half seems unlikely unless the heatwave begins tomorrow and lasts for the rest of 2023 (or I manage to eke out the next three months on approximately 53kWh).
However, using the back of an envelope I did a rough calculation that suggested that over the winter, running the ASHP saved about £50/month compared with oil (assuming a median cost of £0.85/l over the cold months). We didn't install it to save money so I'm happy with that.
fair points apart from the fact that you are assuming you will use the same amount of energy every year.
If you measure it every month of every year over 13 years and average it out it works pretty well, i know, Ive tried it. its what I do.
From jan 1 st 2022 to April 12th 2022 i burnt 2300 kWhrs of electricity driving my heating.
from 1 jan 2023 to April 12th 2023 ive burnt nearly 3000, turns out the weather has been awful this year.
it also highlights the fact to people who dont know that the run cost falls in summer and rises in winter. Many many people dont get theat.

january was horrific this year, my run cost was roughly twice the average, thats global warming for you.

Around 3000kWh for heating and DHW from January 1st to April 12th - I'm in central Italy and our January was a lot colder than normal - minimum temps in the low minuses for much of January. 16kW Daikin HT ASHP, 6.1kWp PV.
So, how did you all end up?
I was at approximately 3000kW mid April and ended up with 5567. I note that December was relatively mild (but wet!) and we benefitted from some 20cm roof insulation installed in summer. In comparison to a gas boiler, I saved about 1000 Euros and - more importantly - 5000kg of Co2.
I used 3305 kWhrs over the whole year and 1608 kWhrs by the 12th April. not bad huh? it was higher than expected in the first 4 months as it was super cold and my heat pump was running at crazy temperatures up while I was away on hols in January. the house sitter was happy though apparently it was very cosy.
