Hot water temperatures
Come early evening after 3 showers and quite a bit of washing up throughout the day my ecodan with a 170L tank shows a temperature of 16c.
As it seemed that the water coming out the kitchen tap was still too hot for the hands I put a gauge to it and it shows 50c.
My tank is set to heat to 60c at 3.30am.
How could this be happening??
Not necessarily a massive problem I know.
Any advice appreciated.
The hot water is taken from the top of the tank, to be replaced by cold water at the bottom of the tank with a minimising of disturbance. (I am presuming you have a Mitsubishi tank, though this should still hold true for different tanks to different degrees.) This keeps a decent stratification between the blocks of hot water and cold water, the boundary gradually rising up the tank. Your tank will probably have two thermistors measuring the temperatures at different heights. If I recall correctly it is the lower of the two that is displayed as the tank temperature so it can drop surprisingly low while there is still a lot of hot water remaining in the tank above its level.

Thats sounds like seriously good news, you have a tank that is well stratified! Rejoice!
4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
Thanks for the replies.
My mind is at rest although it would be great to have more of an idea when it about to run out of H/W.
Yes it is a Mitsubishi tank.
8.5 system.
No pipes around tank with pipe insulation so will look to sort that.
