the fixed flow temp was put in because you have an on-off thermostat somewhere. this needs to go

microbore is probably fine too.. i have weather compensated gas boilers on them. the control logic takes into consideration the heat emitter type and design

*SIGH* The company due out tomorrow has cancelled due to their one and only engineer familiar with heatpumps coming down with Covid. They are now offering me 9th May which I complained about as I have been waiting since 2 March but then I was given the rather strange option of 'earlier if I want someone unfamiliar with heatpumps'! I had to look twice at the email but yes, they weren't joking!

@saz, that is crazy. It’s incredibly annoying and frustrating, but hang in there.

@editor it’s great people are beginning to appreciate why the heating industry is the way it is. Truly the rot starts from the head…policy and manufacturers.

I asked my sales Rep for Vaillant a price of something by what’s app, and he needs to be chased again. it makes me look “foolish” or “lapsodaisical” in the eyes of my customers. Very frustrating!

then there are heat pump manufacturers trivialising compensation controllers, and installing on-off controls

its a sad state of affairs as energy prices rise uncontrollably and carbon emissions need reducing spectacularly..

@alec-morrow I spoke to Vaillant to see if there weas anything they could do, given that the flushing of the system was started by them and that they had initially refused to set up the weather compensation, putting a fixed value on it. Unfortunately, 'computer said no' They said their job had been 'to get the pump working again after the sealant had been injected' and that alone.

The reason there is only one guy (in this very large company that was due out today to finish the flushing, move strainer etc.) that can do the work is because it is the same guy that was watching what the Vaillant engineer was doing. It's just ridiculous.

My Landlord is past caring as despite objections from various people on my behalf about the effect all this is having on my health they are allowing the contractors to do what they do and there is zero independent quality control. I receive no comment back to my statements to them about my system needing to be set up to run in the most efficient way.

Also Vaillant said something rather curious to me, they insisted that the weather comp must be set up with my third party controls. But there is a Sensocomfort in place.

@saz

yes big companies in the heating industry are run like Department of Social Security or What ever it’s called!

they also know the installer will get the grief as the frontline. and can repeatedly blame them

@alec-morrow No tuning was done on my Aerotherm install its working nicely well all down to information gleaned from these posts.  The default install code is "00" and that opens access to weather compensation and temperature settings.

@witchcraft Don’t get me wrong correctly installed heat pumps are as good a heat source as any.

thr technology is world class. Vaillant is an excellent choice it’s the controls that make the heating experience not the heat pump

@witchcraft Yes, thank God for forums like this. Tenants are in a different situation when it comes to the settings and being free or not to adjust. I know the code, I'm just not free to adjust which is frustrating when the people I am sent just end up phoning Vaillant anyway.

@alec-morrow I agree with you to a point. I don't think a high temp system should have been installed in my home. Also their literature and PR maked me nauseous as so many statements need to be qualified with the facts eg. COPs, A* ratings etc. 'suitable for new-builds', but then again that wouldn't sound so good would it or sell as many pumps to the unsuspecting would it? There is a lack of consistency among their own engineers eg. re weather comp, and I still don't yet have an answer about why an immersion has been wired in to the legionella terminal, when all their literature claims one is NOT needed due to the higher temps the Arotherm plus' can reach. I seem to have the worst of all worlds tbh.

the great british mind complicating things to justify policy makers existence.

Really heat pumps should be installed as the manufacturing company does in its home market. You won’t come unstuck

And no you still shouldn’t have a Hive or a Nest!

Latest update - the work has been done to finish off the flushing of the system after that sealant was injected. I am still waiting for an answer regarding whether or not any antifreeze was put back in.

The weather comp was set up, with more insistence from me to point out the fixed value setting had to be removed. So I will be monitoring things although the weather is getting warmer so I won't be able to truly see what's what until the Autumn now.

I have noted a very small pressure drop occurring still. From 2bar at first sealant flush out to 1.2bar this week but it has been topped up by the engineer to 2 bar again.

I am still working on my complaint as life has got in the way a bit.

Can I ask for info about what other people have to cover their pipework outside? My old cover from my previous heatpump has been used to cobble together this which was done yesterday. (Not sure about the insulation? Won't that just get wet? The local wildlife will be stealing that I expect!
