Air to Air heat pump for a flat ? An improvement on Electric Ceiling Heating.
Hi Newbie,
Were you complimenting me on my brilliant installation or the heat pump on it being neat and compact? Of course I did have to get my wife to lift it into place, couldn't possibly risk my back. 😯Â
I should point out that it is rated at 2.6kW and weighs I think 32kg. A smaller size unit was chosen for two main reasons, one being to gain more experience with ASHP's, and the other to better utilise our solar PV generation in Spring and Autumn and hence reduce our gas consumption. It also provides adequate air conditioning during the hotter Summer days. I do now regret not getting a system with two indoor units being supplied from one outdoor unit, but at the time I was not certain where to mount a second indoor unit.
If you wish to see more details of what is available, go to the Appliances Direct website and look under AC units. Whilst you can buy one for a fraction of the cost of an A2W system, you may struggle to get a local AC Engineer to install it for you. For some strange reason they seem to want to supply you with a unit from their supplier, at much elevated prices. I do believe Appliances Direct can provide an installation service.
The other thing of which you need to be aware, is that an A2A unit does not provide hot water.

Yes, the unit was much smaller than the recess, with the rest of the grille being basically an intake for the rear of the unit.
If the unit is mounted at ground level there is always the risk of it drawing the colder discharge air back into the intake at the rear. It may be possible to arrange suitable ducting to ensure that the intake air is obtain some distance from the exhaust.

True. All the ones I've seen have been at least two floors up.
