ASHP Pipework insulation
OK, I know I should have looked at this earlier, but...!
I have 4m of pipework outside that I want to change the routing, so I will increase the insulation on this when this work is done. (It was previously buried!)
I have another 6-7m of pipework in the roof of the "pump room". This is not heated, but houses the Hydrobox and is always above OAT.
The pipes are 10mm and 16mm dia and have foil covered insulation which is only around 6-7 mm wall thickness.
What wall thickness should I be aiming for and is it acceptable to add to the existing insulation or start afresh? The outside insulation can be threaded onto the new pipework but that used inside will need to be slit along the length to fit.
If the insulation isn’t wet you can over-cover it. It’s nearly always the more the better. 2cm wall thickness would be a good start.
2kW + Growatt & 4kW +Sunnyboy PV on south-facing roof Solar thermal. 9.5kWh Givenergy battery with AC3. MVHR. Vaillant 7kW ASHP (very pleased with it) open system operating on WC
