@jeff, sorry I should have made it clear I'm a Symbio customer and I was trying to switch to another Symbio deal. I don't think there will be any problem with PFP. I don't know why 21 days; it just popped up when I was going through the Symbio site. Symbio's fixed rates all have an expiry date of, for example, end of June.
Ah OK.
Last year I swapped from one Scottish Power deal to another Scottish Power deal via Uswitch to get the cashback and switch to another deal. 12.235 electric, 2.107 gas, I was lucky they had a reasonable offer at the time. Nothing like that now for dual fuel. I checked with Scottish Power before the switch.
The 49 days ofgem rule is for switching tariff or supplier from what I have read which is what I did. So in theory you should be able to do it. Of course Symbio is not available via Uswitch. As you say it may be difficult to get Symbio to adhere to the ofgem rule with their current customer service.
@info, what you did is spot on.

Posted by: @infoWhat is the most competitive single electricity tariff at the moment?
@info, it depends where you live and whether you want fixed or variable. For us, cheapest if PFP or Symbio. Use the Which or Citizens Advice tools (find with Google) to compare. Post here again if you have any issues or more questions.
@info Symbio are currently offering 12.6p for a 13 month contract which I think is close to being the cheapest. They offer slightly cheaper variable rates but they don't last long. I'm currently on 11.3p until the end of this year and hope Symbio are still around at Christmas so I can sign up for another year with them at a low rate as we are on course to spend £4500 on electric this year so any small change in the unit rate makes a huge difference to us.

Thanks George. Symbio sounds like a very competitive tariff. But your electricity bill is very high. Do you run a business or are you a domestic user?
Apologies, George, if you’ve received 2 similar replies from me just now. I’m new to the forum site & still learning.
@george, Symbio can be a little misleading with their online quotes (and most other things too). Some of the cheaper fixed rates have an expiry start date of May or June 2021; I don't know if they will be available since a switch won't happen before they expire. They also won't let current customers have any cheap rates; my renewal quote is over 18p and apparently that's the best they'll do for a renewal. They really are a law unto themselves. I'm resigned to switching to something in the 14-15p range, probably PFP I just have to hope Symbio return the large credit balance they have from me promptly.
@kev-m, there is a link that you can click on when you're a customer to get cheaper rates - they simply default you to the most expensive rate every time. I have to do this every two months when new tariffs become available. Given their upcoming changes that they'll be implementing in due course, I may have to switch again soon.
