Goody-goody Gumdrops, I have just been informed that the Homely Evergreen range of controllers has been expanded to allow integration with Daikin ASHP’s. My installer is awaiting arrival of a unit that they will fit to my system and a representative of Homely wishes to attend the install. Sounds like an interesting day ahead soon… Regards, Toodles.

I and probably others would be really interested to hear how you get on . looking forward to the story!

@iancalderbank Thank you, I am looking forward to the installation too! At present, I have a Heatmiser NeoAir thermostat setup and to me, this is very rudimentary and crude, ‘On or Off’ is all it offers really and I feel there is more to controlling the day to day running of the heat pump system. At present, if I set the Neostat a degree or so above required temperature it does ensure that the heat pump settings for WC and LWT control things - but the internal secondary pump runs continuously. How much this really matters, I’m not sure, consumption is just 6 watts/hour and I suppose running continuously might be kinder on the motor and bearings etc. The Homely should be able to improve on the WC control and will have room temperature feedback and additional data from regional / local weather forecasts and take account of solar gain too. I’m not sure whether the API for Agile will be helpful as I have battery storage anyway - but it can’t harm! Just waiting to hear about installation date - I think Evergreen are keen to learn from my system too. Regards, Toodles.

Hello
Id be very interested to how your Homely install went, and who you used? The company I used to install my Daikin high temperature heat pump have never heard it. So im wondering who I can get to install one.
thanks
James
I@abbottcam The installation is scheduled for Monday 9th. October, a rep from Evergreen Homely is attending too. Homely have decided that the smart controller installation should be carried out by registered and trained installers (I am using the company who installed my ASHP system). Homely have only recently added the integration of the controller to the compatibility list for the Daikin range (I have the LT unit (EDLA08E2V3). I have an LLH and this has a secondary pump; Homely have now incorporated provision for controlling this into the design. I think that Homely will be monitoring the operation and performance of my installation nearly as closely as I will! 😉 I’ll report back to this forum soon after the installation has settled down; I understand that the controller ‘learns’ the dynamics of the environment it controls and may take a while to settle down. I have requested access to the installer’s dashboard so that I can monitor performance in greater detail but this will involve Homely providing me with an access code - I hope to convince the rep that I don’t want to meddle but that I have a genuine interest in peak perfomance and having access to any error messages etc.
Installers carry out on-line training before Homely supply them with units to install and the access to an app to carry out the setup. Sounds to me like a good plan to me and the future should be very interesting! Regards, Toodles.

Installation has been postponed; am waiting for a date next week when the Homely rep is also available on site; will update then. Regards, Toodles.

On initial install I also had Heatmiser NeoAir thermostat setup which is indeed crude and inefficient. As soon as I could that was swapped for the Mitsubishi wireless controller which is so much better. However when Homely becomes available for Mitsubishi ASHP I will be keen to investigate further. Thus I will follow this thread with interest to see your experience and thoughts. Good luck.

@abbottcam Last February (when my Gaikin ASHP was installed, there was talk about the integration for Daikin but not in time for the intial installatio. The Heatmiser unit is being tweaked most days as I find the unit is very sluggish to respond to drops in temperature and as you say on/off is so crude! I will have a Heatmiser NeoAir surplus to requirements then and I hope, far better control of the heat pump; I find the WD setting a little hit and miss at present - perhaps the sesor which is situated behind the heat pump is sheltered and not sensing the true temperature at times. Manual tweaking rectifies this though and once the Homely is installed… Regards, Toodles.

I contacted Homely via their web site to ask if/when it would be available for Mitsubishi ASHP. They replied thus:
Hello,
Thanks for your message.
I'm afraid we don't support your heat pump and don't have any active plans to do so.
Really sorry that we can't help you out on this occasion.
The team at Homely
So any other Mitsubishi owners waiting..............don't.

@morgan Oh what a shame:-( I hope they think again in the future; I believe there are a fair number of Mitsi’s out there. Still waiting for a date to have my Homely controller installed. I really want to have the close relationship with Homely and am very happy to have their close scrutiny of my system - I’m sure both parties will benefit from this. Regards, Toodles.

I know. Hence my email inquiry to them. It is what it is and their reply is copied and pasted.

Meanwhile… I am due to have the Homely unit fitted to our Daikin EDLA08 on Monday 23rd. October; the Homely rep will not be present but, the installer has booked a telephone call with him so that he can run through all the procedure and setup to ensure we have a ‘tickety boo’ installation before he leaves! Will report back in due course. Regards, Toodles.

At long last, the Homely controller has been fitted to my Daikin EDL08E2V3 ASHP! First impressions: The installation manual and the YouTube videos seem to be at variance about a few points regarding connections and dip switches I think, but the fitter spoke with Homely and eventually, we had a working system.
I had initially set the desired temperature to 22.5 C as we are chilly mortals and had been using this level previously but have since reduced this in stages to 21.5 C. The unit needs to learn our system needs which I gather takes a week or two to settle down; having adjusted to our requirements, the heating losses, solar gain through windows and numerous other unique factors about our house, things should settle down. As suggested, I set a 2 degree tolerance to allow temperature to vary making best use of Agile tariff half hourly changes but felt that a rise to 24.5 C was a little too much so along with reducing our required comfort level by a degree, I have reduced the tolerance to 1 degree. The radiators were warmer last night and this morning than we have been used to so Homely was obviously raising the LWT though I feel sure this will settle down in time. Having lowered the comfort level and tightened the tolerance, I think it will be nearer the LWT of 38 degrees C that I had set manually. (It was this high as I was still fiddling with the other parameters on the slope having only just started to see some colder weather for the first time since installation mid-February.) Homely should deal with all these factors now and I look forward to staedy temperatures and low consumption!
We have the heating on 24/7 and I have now re-fitted a Hive TRV in our bedroom set to reduce the temperature overnight - leaving the rest of the house to build a thermal store overnight at cheapest rates ready for the following day; only time will tell if this is a good plan! As yet, I do not have access to the installer’s app which will provide data from the D-Comm unit, this I hope to arrange when the rep from Homely returns from leave and provides me with a password soon. I think that Homely wish to keep a close watch on this system as there aren’t many such installations as yet. More news when fit to print! Regards, Toodles.
