Hi Folks,
I'm Jo, based in the North of Scotland. I've been lurking on these boards for a while now - lots of useful info and tips, thanks - but since we had our new AroTherm 12kW ASHP installed this week, I thought it was time I showed face.
Pretty happy with the system so far (though I haven't had an electricity bill yet!), and currently working through the settings to understand and optimise.
Look forward to interacting a little more now!
Hello
I have just registered for this forum because I think I have an issue with my Daikin Altherma 3M heat pump (installed March 2022).
Basically the problem is that now I've switched "space heating" on the radiators (and possibly the underfloor heating as the system is split into two) come on when neither heatmiser thermostat is requesting heat. I'm not sure how to raise a new thread on the forum (I'm new to this game) if this is what I need to do but may be someone can advise.
I had this issue last winter (as well as a lot of other issues) and was never resolved by the installers so thought the forum may be a good way to go!
Thanks in anticipation
Steve

Welcome to the forum.
You can start a new thread, or join one that has a similar theme.
I'm afraid that heat pumps and heatmiser's don't often play well together, so it may be useful for you to read through many of the previous posts on the subject.
If you would care to post details of your system and problems I feel certain someone will try to help you.
@derek-m I have a Heatmiser Neo Air stat fitted to my Daikin EDLA08 and on Wednesday (much delayed due to the installer being overbooked on jobs) I should have this control replaced with a Homely; I have had to wait some time until Evergreen completed the integration with Daikin units. The heatmiser is not very useful or friendly and was fitted as a ‘default’ last February during installation. Please read the topic I started a month or so ago about the Homely if you wish. Regards, Toodles.

I haven’t had any failures as such; it is just that the Heatmiser system was designed for gas / oil boilers really and is an ‘on/off’ device. Heat pumps deserve and benefit from more subtle control and as we have modulating compressors in the Daikin units, I felt it far better to allow intelligent control to look after my heat pump. I have had to wait until now for the integration (which includes control over secondary pump). What I have been doing until now is setting the Neo stat a degree or so above my desired temperature so that it doesn’t keep stopping the heat pump and have set the LWT and other parameters to provide the temperature required. This method is only as good as the settings for LWT and Weather Compensation allows; the Homely will not only constantly monitor the temperature, it will anticipate weather changes, solar gain etc. and it should ‘talk nicely’ to the compressor and anticipate house heat loss levels by learning the demands and our needs! Regards, Toodles.

Hi all.
Been lurking and reading a lot of the information on here as like many people I've had the wham-bam-thank-you-mam install of a Samsung 12kW Gen 6 unit.
Although the system heats my home without problems, I've been unhappy with the efficiency of the system compared to what was touted pre-install and in the Samsung data specification. Last winter I was using over 1MWh each month!!
I've tried to research and optimise as best as I can, the information on post in this group by far pointing the way.
My unit has been paired with non-PWM pump, 50L buffer vessel and plumbed / wired as per the Secon Renewables installation guide.
I'm fortunate to have been able to invest in Solar PV and Battery storage which is helping to offset running costs.
My most recent decision has been to remove the external thermostat control as their design uses short bursts of call for heat which does not allow the heat pump to reach a steady state and cuts the call for heat during ramp up.
I look forward to gathering more information and contribute any nuggets as I go through my own learning journey.
Hello, I have been reading for 3 weeks now; I was unable to read up fully on the topic before the installation of, coincidentally, our 12kW Samsung system with hot water tank, and it looks like there are very few good intallers up here in Scotland who actually understand the topic.
@minted_lamb - have you tried changing the number of cycles permitted per hour on the thermostat? I did that after just over 2 weeks of observation after install, and it has worked a treat, going from 5 an hour down to 1, often nothing for an hour, saving a good 20% or so electricity use.

Agreed.
There's a load of topics on this forum regarding the need to stop a heat-pump from cycling on/off.
Thermostat controls like that are relevant for gas/oil boilers, but not heat pumps.

Oh, that was you!
I'd wondered who was using it all.
Save energy... recycle electrons!
Hi, I am new to the forum. Have had a 5kw solar array on the roof for about a year now and just had an Ecodan 11KW ASHP installed.
