Sorting out a Grant Aerona3 Install

Ive offered to help out an 81 year old lady who is struggling with her Grant HP install and the installers have washed their hands of it. I had a quick look at it today and have the manuals they left but its not a manufacturer Ive come across before and could use some help. Ive attached pictures of her set up. There seem to be a lot of controllers! She says she has no hot water and has to boost the immersion whenever she needs it, all the rads have thermostatic valves and the wireless controller seems to show 3 on off periods every day. Im thinking I would like to set a cylinder heat up when the sun is highest as she has solar panels and then just leave the HP on heating the rest of the day with WC set up and the thermostatic valves wide open, adjusting the flow valves to set the room temp. Can anyone point me to the right controller to check what WC she has set up and set the DHW heating time etc. Im not actually sure if the LCD display is anything to do with the installation Thanks in advance

So I found the grant controller, helpfully situated under some pipes! Unfortunately it shows nothing on the screen and the on/off button does nothing so it looks like no power to it or its bust. I asked the ladies brother to try to contact the installers again. Any helpful ideas?

Some photo's would be helpful.

If your installer thinks it is acceptable for the controller to be located under some pipework and possibly not be connected, it would make me question his competence.

I didn't think the HP would work at all without the controller working. Maybe it has some default cycles that enable it to work to some extent? The manual states that turning off the controller turns off the HP though.

I assume when you open the door at the front of the controller, nothing lights up and there is no green light at the top left of the controller (which you can see in @Allyfish post of 27/10/2023).

To turn the controller on/off you need to press and hold the on/off button (located at top left of front of controller, with the lights on it) for 3 seconds. Assume you've tried this? If it's dead then no idea where you go without getting hold of the installer.

@derek-m I agree!, not my installer though Derek, just helping out someone. I knew Grant discouraged people messing with their controller, but this takes it to a whole new level 🙂 Fortunately I was able to wiggle it off its mounting plate in order to be able to open the flap!

I think it must have worked when it was put in, but nothing now. I didnt have a multimeter with me so the ladies brother is going to check it out.

All sorted now, thats for the help, here is the offending Controller, thankfully the push fit fittings have some movement in them 🙂

That's quite an installation choice for the primary user controller. They didn't bother with any pipe insulation either I see.

@bontwoody well done in helping a vulnerable person out. What a monumentally stupid controller installation location. Do you know who the installer was? We really need to call out such appalling workmanship, not to mention the pipes left uninsulated.
