How much.
Basically 1-5 yes, 6 is, based on what I currently understand about your system, a waste of time and money given that you already have a tank. Did the installer give a reason for making this suggestion?
Having said that if the price is reasonable and they are going to take some sort of responsibility, then it may be a sacrifice worth making to get the main job done.
Would you be prepared to post the quote?
4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
I have no problem with a Thermino, I just pointed out the differences.
The best person to discuss Thermino's with would be @toodles, since he has one installed.
Hi Toodles,
I believe you have a Thermino installed ?
Is the Thermino any good?
Would you recommend your Thermino?
@derek-m Yes, I have a Sunamp Thermino eP210 and have it connected through a Myenergi Eddi for Solar or grid supply. Very pleased with the unit - anything you would like to know? Toodles.
Toodles, he heats his home with cold draughts and cooks his food with magnets.
@iantelescope Yes I would recommend it - particularly to anyone with solar PV and or bereft of sufficient space for a large DHW tank. I found the standard dimension tanks were either too large in diameter or if slim enough, too high to fit any space we had. Previously, our gas boiler provided us with DHW stored in a 99 litre tank (which we did have space for) being a 4 bedroomed house, MCS require 210 litres minimum of storage and at the time of commencing our ASHP adventure, fitting such a tank in the loft was not favoured bu the potential installers.
Our tank is approximately a quarter of the volume of a conventional DHW tank and does not have a plethora of pipes attached all over the thing. Cold feed in and hot feed out to the tempering valve is all that is required. The Sunamp provides the Eddi with whatever commands are required so there is just mains and control cable to the Eddi. It is very well insulated too, very little energy is wasted (less than 0.75 kWh per day). Absolutely silent in operation and very little risk of Legionella so no need of disinfecting cycles.
I would recommend it to anyone who is prepared to pay the price (I’m very pleased I did!) There are various models availabe including version that work with a HT heat pump and others that are grid only etc. Regards, Toodles.

Many thanks James , your opinion is appreciated.
Cost £5.5k
I have called the company asking if they understand the particular nature of my current set up.
The Boss/Salesman appeared stressed when asked if he understood that the current set up contained many components missed by my previous installer.
Got a Plumber!
My favorite Plumber has just reappeared and will come to see my proposed work!
Many thanks for your advice . Spot On!
Many thanks @toodles.
My current 200 L Hot water tank is far too heavy at 250 Kg and far too big for my kitchen!.
The 200 L was not , however, the Hot water tank I ordered being "discovered " by my installer at a local Plumbing store, presumably , at a knock down price.
Questions:
How do you heat the Thermino during Summer, mains or Solar ?
How do you heat the Thermino during Winter, Off peak mains ?

Off peak electric and solar when available to both questions
Maxa i32V5 6kW ASHP (heat and cooling)
6.5kW PV
13.5kW GivEnergy AIO Battery.
@iantelescope Glad to hear you’re making some progress. Congratulations (though perhaps not auspiciously) on your dodgy heat pump installation 'case' now spanning over 50 pages with nearly 600 posts – a real marathon.
Could you please remind me, I recall you lodging a complaint with a consumer code – was it RECC or HIES?

My initial complaint was to MCS in August 2022
the complete complaint tree was passed through
MCS -> NIC 1 ->EST Scotland ->HES Scotland -> NIC 2 -> RECC 1 -> Consumer Arbitration CA -> RECC 2 -> NIC 3 Feb 2024)
As you say a marathon!
I have , finally, abandoned the official channels when the NIC finally said that "Nothing can be done"............now relying on an excellent Plumber.
Hopefully I will have the Heat Pump working, affordable and stable!

Does weight matter? If it does check the weight of the thermio as they are preet heavy too. If the tank is too big then a thermio will solve the problem, as would a smaller tank if you don't need so much water. If you go for an electric only one you should first strictly check the conditions of any grant you received for your ashp as it might require you to continue using the ashp to heat dhw for a specified period. Just saying, I doubt if anyone will check!
With the reservation that the thermio will be half of the total and seems unnecessary (but perhaps not if size matters) then 5.5k doesn't sound too bad.
Good luck with your plumber. Probably a better bet if he/she will play.
