Heat pumps and home insurance. Are you insured?
@toodles I'm referring to either/or. Emergency cover if the heat pump starts work, or if the heat pump is stolen or crushed by a falling tree during a storm.

Mars, I do recall asking about this at renewal. I've just gone back and checked the policy wording again and there is one related exclusion, for loss or damage to ground source heat pumps due to subsidence or heave.Posted by: @editorOur home insurance policy has an actual exclusion for heat pumps - they aren't covered if something goes. Oil and gas boiler, no problem, it's covered.
Does your home insurance cover your heat pump?
Please let me know, because we might be able to escalate this matter and get this changed. If there's something confidential you don't want to post publicly, please drop me a DM.

Really interesting question and when I heard of a couple of manufacturers requesting no anti-freeze protection I wrote and asked them about warranty, one didn't reply the other said they would look upon a freeze damaged heat pump warranty claim on a one-off basis. In other words, hope for the best.
When chatting to an insurance assessor on an unrelated claim at my home I asked what the policy would be and he said candidly he didn't know but if there was no specific inclusion or exclusion anything under a known risk with some sort of protection applied generally would be covered, anything under known risk with no protective measures taken would likely not be covered.
An excerpt from a heat pump manual "All hydronic parts are insulated to reduce heat loss, insulation must be added to field pipework. In the event of a power failure the above features would not protect the unit from freezing."
I work for a manufacturer of heat pumps and boilers.
According to my Home Insurance policy I have cover for a "boiler" and underground pipes. Outside above ground equipment (mentions air conditioning unit) and associated outside pipework is not covered. When I spoke to my insurers they stated that ASHPs were not covered.
@noburn who's the insurer just for reference?
