Hi guys

This saturday Im going away for 4 days. The temps look to be slightly warmer rather than the freezing conditions we have had. Do you think Ill be ok to turn the handheld stat off? (which - in effect - will prevent heat from being requested). Or is there a risk of pipes freezing?

Ive checked Holiday Mode settings and its set at Flow temp: 35c, which is what I currently have it set at (@ -1c outside. Its on a comp curve). So perhaps I could change the Holiday Mode to be something like 25c.

It seems a waste having it on for 4 days while Im out. When I get back it will only take an hour or so for the rooms to heat up again. But perhaps theres arguments to have it on regardless.

Thanks

Your system sounds different to mine, but I left mine on room-temperature (auto-adapt) with a target of 13°c and it ran enough to prevent freezing-related problems without using much energy. I did goof in that it takes more than hours for our system to warm up from that, so I should have set it to switch back to normal operations at 1am to give it time to warm the house up for our mid-afternoon return!

My holiday mode is set to the minimum, 20 deg. I go away a lot and I use that.  If you have freeze stat enabled you could not bother with holiday mode and just turn the stats down.  If you have glycol in the system the pipes won't freeze anyway.

Thanks guys. I think Ill put the handheld stat in frost mode, just in case! Although as you say, if theres glycol in the system (which there is!) then it should freeze anyway.

It probably won't matter for this weekend or for a couple of days, but if you go away when it's as cold as it has been this week, remember that your home has other pipes with water in that could freeze, not just the heat pump ones.
