Hi @Toodles, Sadly I've not made enough posts on this forum to be able to send DMs yet- could you send me a message on how you got access? Cheers!
Cancel that, I've managed to work it out somehow... and then saw your message- I can confirm that is how it worked for me.
Interesting, the COP is I think wildly overestimated. The disclaimer states they calculate this backwards from what the heatpump model's stated COP is at given operating conditions, which I suppose will be on the generous side. On the other hand, it's very nice to see how the system is behaving and what the setpoints are. I think I'll wait for winter and see if it's short cycling as much then before asking the installer if they can tweak these down a bit.
To add to this, since I've done a bit more digging for my own edification: It does look like the heatpump kW consumption agrees pretty well with the estimates homely is using- I'm on a Midea monobloc R32 unit and using Midea's own app I can get the power consumption rounded to the nearest kW from there.
Treat these numbers with hefty error bars, since it's eyeballing the data: Another thing I've learned is that If I heat the DHW to 55C and don't use it, the (200L) tank stays above 40C for 48hrs, which is about the lowest usable temperature. If I heat it to 50C, it's closer to 36hrs before the tank cools to 40C, so a 25% reduction in usable time, but it uses about 50% of the electricity. This is probably not news to anyone familiar with how heatpumps work, but it's nice to see it empirically. I've been overprovisioning my hot water temp and only heating it twice a week since we have an electric shower and only really use DHW for baths for the kids. I'm now wondering if I should set it to closer to 45C and top-up daily, giving homely more control as a result. On the other side of that equation though is agile pricing- setting it for twice a week, one of which is on Sunday, means a lot of the time the sunday run is very cheap. Other days won't be.
Thanks @Toodles, as you can see I'm having a lot of fun poring over the data! I hope they don't take it back from me 🙂
@majordennisbloodnok Hi, I'm getting frustrated by the lack of control & monitoring of my fairly new Samsung ASHP. During the recent power outage my Powerwall did fine but the heat pump reacted to the momentary power outage by firing up full blast, taking lots of energy from the battery. I had to open up the garage and check on what it was doing. The CH was off but it was just heating the water. I'm considering Homely, if only to monitor and control it. I'd like to see a lot more data....flow charts, temps etc does homely do this? Could I fit it all myself?
Cheers
Prof
@profzarkov I have access to the Homely Dashboard that provides all the details you mention; strictly speaking, you need to register with Homely, follow the on-line training video then sign up and you will be able to gain access to the dashboard. I had permission granted at the point of installation by Homely staff as the version of Homely (for a Daikin EDLA series pump) was still ‘under trial’ and they wanted a few users to gain real life user’s experience.
By carrying out the Homely website training, you will be qualified to install the system for yourself. I have had the system in use for just over a year and find it very good and the technical back-up and staff friendly and very helpful. Regards, Toodles.
Toodles, heats his home with cold draughts and cooks food with magnets.
Profzarkov. I have the same problem as you with my Samsung Gen 7 12kwh. My installer fitted the Planet Device, and this is good for seeing what's going on, but no good for controls. I may try Havenwise when I receive the wi fi kit that was supposed to be included with the pump; Samsung are being particularly difficult in not delivering the kit to my suppliers.
@broadsman I am giving Havenwise a go - I have an Ecodan and Mixergy and the latter seems to have a mind of its own. I suspect that the Ecodan and Mixergy settings are interacting somehow. In particular there seem to be Legionella runs at random times but never when I set them.
Havenwise monitors your system for 2 weeks using MELcloud guest access and I am at that stage at the moment.
Mitsubishi Zubadan 14kW with Mixergy 210l DHW in 220m2 barn property. 24 solar panels = 9kWp with GivEnergy 5.0kW Hybrid inverter and 19kWh GivE batteries. Jaga Strada fan-assisted rads throughout. Landvac vacuum glazing/triple glazed windows.
@downfield I would appreciate your comments and views when Havenwise has been running properly for a couple of weeks.
@profzarkov As a matter of interest, was the wi-fi kit delivered with your heat pump and installed?
@profzarkov If you have a Gen 7 heat pump, the kit comes as part of the package, according to their website, and you have therefore "paid" for it.
As a matter of interest, what is your average Delta T differential?
@broadsman um, delta T? How do I know that? I'm not sure what gen my heat pump is, I'll check. Only installed this September...
