I've monitored our Ecodan 11.2 since it was installed 3 years ago with the objective of optimising its performance. At installation a separate electricity consumption meter was installed which has consistently shown that the HP overestimates the energy it consumes. This is most obvious when only hot water is heated in the summer though the HP shows energy being consumed but none output.
The overestimate is variable. For a while I took daily readings and it varied between +1 and -5 (where - is an overestimate). More recently I recorded weekly for a year and it ranged between -5 and -8 per week. Now I feel things are broadly optimised I'm just keeping monthly records.

Interesting. I tried very hard to monitor energy consumption through the Ecodan heat pumps without any real success and it didn’t feel accurate (we have a cascade system so the app is not able to measure energy consumption). So instead I monitor the whole house usage and compare it annually. I figure the other domestic non-heating electrical usage is more or less the same each year (previously LPG heated the house and water).

but it is in theory a condition of the BUS grant that we monitor our usage and efficiency.  Not really that easy to do!

ps must change profile picture. Makes the house look cold - but it really isn’t!

@carpenterstation one thing you may want to look into is a CT clamp. Some WiFi based models even allow you to measure several cables.

Then you just get that info via the app.

Or then move to a home assistant setup taking the sensor feeds and just let it do all the calculations for you..

How are your heat pumps wired up? Two single phase circuits or a single three phase? The OEM kit can monitor multiple electricity meters, at 45 amp per single phase and 100 amp three phase.

Even large pumps can be on 16 amps single phase, so the thought of installing a smart socket or switch that can measure energy comes to mind.. 😉

May need to inform your pump installer..
