Can I repurpose a Daikin Altherma LT system to heat a swimming pool?
Hi All,
Newbie here!
Long story short - we have a Daikin Altherma LT split system (16kW) that was installed in 2012 providing space heating and hot water for our house (270m2).
This year, with energy prices through the roof, our costs are enormous and the system is so old there is no monitoring information available. I've installed some CT sensors over the past couple of months and I'm gradually building up some usage data. One issue I think is key is the distance of the outdoor unit from the house. I reckon it must be close to 50m from the internal unit.
So I'm exploring moving it closer to the house as one option but, another potential option, is repurposing the Daikin and having it as a dedicated ASHP for our seasonal outdoor swimming pool (35,000 litres) and getting a new modern ASHP unit sited closer to the house. I assume ASHPs today provide way better monitoring and I assume there are other technical advances over 12 years to benefit from too?
If using it for the pool I assume water flow rates would be one potential issue? Heatwise, the pool gets heated to 29 - 30C and operates from May to end Sept.
Any thoughts? Worth pursuing?
Thanks!
Graham
