ASHP options for my mum living in Cambridgeshire
@marzipan71 I thought homely was intended to be self-installable , did they say why they wouldn't let you have one? all their comms is over internet, so country of use shouldn't be a factor.

Hi @iancalderbank when I look at the Homely website it says that 'Homely can be purchased by our Accredited Installers and is not sold directly to the general public. That’s because we want every Homely installation to be done perfectly.' I assumed that would mean it wouldn't be available here in Italy - I haven't spoken with them, but I suppose they might bend the rules for geographies where they don't have any installers trained up yet? Or maybe I could become an installer and have a little side-gig... 🤣
so : I am technically an end user (I am not MCS, I don't get paid to install heat pumps, I do something else entirely for a living). But, I installed my own heat pump, and I've learned a lot about how they work. I read through the homely installer manuals and sat through their installer videos. They are not rocket science.
I had a conversation with homely support about how it uses modbus and how that might interact with the modbus that I am currently using , which led me to conclude that at this time, I'm not going to install one. That support, was without me paying them any money - I haven't bought their product. I was able to establish during that conversation, that they were entirely happy for me (as a very technical end-user) to install my own, and they'd support me doing that. I think they are perhaps only trying to avoid having to do end user support for non-technical end users. So I would simply suggest that you ask them 🙂
you can buy one directly, from here: https://midsummerwholesale.co.uk/buy/homely

Ah good to know @iancalderbank, thanks. I guess if I asked them then and signed in blood that I wouldn't bug them with break-glass requests for help ('How do I open the box?') then they might be happy to send me one (or midsummer wholesale might). Complication might be my Daikin is an older 'dumb' model (the ugly duckling on pages 162-163 in the 2023 catalogue) that doesn't have any kind of smart control - just the wired 'remote controller'/ 'remote user interface' (EKRUAHTB) so would have to check that Homely is compatible with my configuration - might need me to purchase and install the Daikin DCOM gateway, which I don't currently have. The wall-mounted in-room controller option is also shown on p163 of the current catalogue. Nothing is ever simple with my ASHP 😥
@marzipan71 The Homely system needs P1/P2 connections, do you have those? Regards, Yoodles.

Hi @toodles I believe so yes - the installation manual for the Daikin internal unit (EKHBRD) gives instructions for the connection of the 'remote controller' (EKRUAHTB) via P1 and P2 connections per photo. Is that what you mean?
@marzipan71 Yes, it is but, it might be as well to check compatibility with Green Energy to be sure it will be at ‘Homely’ in the heat pump in question. Regards, Toodles.

Thanks @toodles 😀 my Daikin is always an exception - I'm so thankful to the numpty who decided it was the set up we needed.
@marzipan71 😊 Toodles.
