Totally agree on the energy reduction and CO2 reduction.
But I was trying to compare like for like.
I spent £8 on petrol for the mower. Else all mileage is electric. So that’s charging via PV or overnight on a low cost electric tariff.
So you need to get the whole picture

Quite surpised seeing some high figures, considering the time of year.

Our average usage / cost for May worked out to be: an average of 6.9kWh per day, at £1.14 per day

So far for June our average usage / cost : 5.620kWh / £0.82 per day

And on average for June we are generating 9kWh per day via our solar panels

We do try to put the appliances on when we're generating solar, but can't always be done.

To put it into context, I can't remember who it was who was using 30kWh per day, but that was our average daily kWh used in January.

It was me. Our non heating and HW usage is consistently about 12 kWh/day through the year so if you're using 30kWh/day in January you're doing much better than us!

what, no battery lawnmower?  tsk tsk, I expected better of you Julian. 😉

@derek-m

The Grant engineer found the fluid levels to be where he expected so I don't think there is a continuing leak. I still have to replace the valve that leaked (prior to his visit) and which is currently just screwed down.

Of our daily usage about 6kWh is overnight. Water is heated for three short periods in each 24 hours. This ensures we have constant hot water.  There are 2 of us and the house only has showers, no bath. Apart from the usual appliances the only extra one is the Klargester waste treatment plant . This runs continuously but draws about 1.8kWh per day.

We don't have solar PV, although it would clearly generate some useful power in the summer.

Hi Mike,

The leaking valve may in fact be the pressure relief valve, that was incorrectly adjusted. Does it have a manufacturers label? If so, please send me details and I will check the specification. I can then give you details of how to adjust it correctly yourself. Did you replace the pressure gauge? If not, please send details and I will source a replacement that you can install yourself.

I was surprised to hear that you are using 6 kWh of electricity overnight, it may pay you to check all your equipment and systems to see where the energy is being used. Do you have a smart meter? The instantaneous energy reading on a smart meter can be used to check the approximate consumption of equipment by switching the equipment on and off whilst monitoring the power reading.

@derek-m That's very kind.

Attached are photos of the gauge and the valve.

No smart meter,

Have just been switched to EDF as our last supplier (Green Network) went bust.

Will ask them about smart meters, although a neighbour said their supplier had difficulty making it work as the radio signal  wasn't strong enough in this area.

Hi Mike,

From the photo's the pressure gauge is from a company called Intatec and will probably be one or other of the following:-

Code: GP1576004, pressure = 4 Bar, connection = back, size 1/4", dial size 50mm

Code: G45014BK, pressure = 4 Bar, connection = back, size 1/4", dial size 50mm

That is assuming that the diameter of the dial is 50mm.

Using a small mirror can you see if there is a label on the back of the pressure gauge.

The brass pipe fitting into which the pressure gauge is screwed is actually the pressure relief valve. Can you look on the end of the red plastic cap and see if there is any identification label or markings.

I am not 100% certain what the pipe fittings is where the leak occurred. Using a small screwdriver or something similar can you try cleaning the outer surface and see if there are any markings, particularly beneath the insulation.

Below are the effects of hot weather, air conditioning and solar PV with battery. For context we purchased 0.24kw yesterday, we used 23kw and produced 52kw. At the moment we have no ASHP installed

@derek-m

I've checked on the inta website and you are right the gauge is the GP1576004 which I see I can get from them for £11.30.

The valve which spewed glycol a few weeks back is also an inta product. I'm pretty certain it is the 15mm connection one AAV07911500B. From the attached photo you can see that it could be isolated, removed and replaced. But although I don't know why it released the glycol I'm not sure if it is actually faulty. I gingerly just unscrewed the red top and it let out some air.  Around the time of the leak the system was very noisy and that has now abated. Maybe that signified a problem elsewhere. This all followed the visit of the local engineer (not the more recent Grant one). So can I confidently reset that valve, rather than replace it?

 PS: I'm trying an experiment today and have turned off the hot water and heating at the time switch. This will allow me to establish our baseload kWh electricity consumption without the ASHP. With the continuing hot weather it's a good time to do this.
