There's a comment on Tomato Energy at the end of this post.
If it's too cryptic for you (!) then ask the poster to elaborate over on that topic.
Save energy... recycle electrons!
@transparent it doesn't sound good 🤔

I switched to British Gas (from EDF) in the summer to a 14 month fix at 24.72p in the day and 14.34p at night. Given current price forecasts that expiry date may prove to be inconvenient.
The tariff includes half price electricity on Sundays from 11:00 to 16:00. The same will apply on December 25th and 26th. So we now do heavy duty laundry on Sunday afternoons. You can't avoid using the tumble drier at this time of year. I also make sure the hot water is on during that period and switch it off later (overriding the timer setting). Perhaps we will have Christmas dinner in the afternoon this year too!
If price variations like this become more commonplace traditional central heating time switches such as we have will need replacing. They are too much hassle to regularly adjust the timings of the DHW and UFH.

In August we had a daikin altherma 3 installed by Octopus. The unit is working great but I would love to know that it is working efficiently and we are making the best use of our Intelligent octopus go overnight off peak. Is there a way of getting all the electricity usage and heat produced in a more meaningful way than mmi unit provided with the system. I am not an electrician nor someone that wants to spend hours setting up home assistant to just get basic info.
Any help please.
Hi All
We have 2 ASHPs, Solar/Battery system and soon a full EV. At present we use Octopus Cosy. This does give 3 off peak periods for which we could charge the EV. However my neighbour is using OVO off peak variable period leaving the charging period for his EV up to OVO and his smart wall box. He has Oil CH.He is paying 7p/kwh. Cheapest off peak on Cosy is around 12p/kwh atm
We have basic ROLEC wall box which is controlled by our current PHEV, but it will not cope with multi period scheduling at all.
So, I have 2 questions.
Does anyone know of a cheaper way to run all our conflicting electrical demands
Does anyone have recommendation for a Smart wall box I could replace my basic ROLEC with?
Cheers and Thanks
Alan
I came across the new E.ON Next heat pump tariff, Next Pumped, and I’m not entirely sure why it’s being promoted specifically as a heat pump tariff. It offers reduced rates during two time slots each day: 13:00–16:00 and 04:00–07:00.
While the morning reduction makes sense, the afternoon slot feels a bit odd. Wouldn’t it make much more sense to have a reduced tariff from, say, 01:00–07:00 (which coincidentally is their EV tariff timings: midnight to 07:00), covering the hours when heat demand is typically highest?
Curious to hear others’ thoughts on this.

@editor I thought I would take a look; I think MI5 wrote the script for their website! Does anyone know what the price per kWh is with Next Pump - they seem to be hiding that from my attempts to search! Regards, Toodles. (Perhaps GCHQ know)

@editor I just joined Eon Next for the EV tarrif. I didn't go with tomatonenrgy at the end.
With Eon next 20% redicution in price. 40%increase on the time the cheep tariff is avaliable. I do all the heating hot water in the 7 hours. Then just heat the next day at the same time.
With octopus Go I only had 5 hours for 8.5p/kw. It worked out to about 13p/kw avarge. Curious about the new avarge after a month.

@toodles, yeah, that's E.ON for you. They do love a clandestine tariff and make you work for it.
Hopefully the smart meter will be fitted next week and I can look at ToU tariffs more seriously.

@andris interesting, and thanks sharing percentages, which is a lot clearer than "pay a fraction of the price per unit of electricity compared to our standard rate".
Out of curiosity, why didn't you opt for Octopus?

@editor I have been with octopus untill now, for inport and export. They are the best company so far. But their EV tarrif is for 5 hours and it cost 8.5p/ kW v. Eon next 7 hours for 6.7p/kw day rate is similar.
As we say in Hungary "money talks dog barks". 😀
Ps: For outgoing tarrif I stayed on the fixed 15p/kw with 🐙

@andris I employed Smiley and eventually discovered that the Eon Next Pumped tariff is 11p. per kWh during the cheapest hours so no real incentive to move from Octopus Cosy that I can see.
I then looked at the EV (that which I do not have!) tariff which provides 7 hours overnight at 6.7 pence per kWh. I note that their conditions for using the E tariff are: “To be eligible for our Next Drive tariff you need to have a smart meter that can send us half hourly updates on your energy use. This is so we can bill you for the right rate.” I did not see any requirement to actually have an EV! Could anyone in the know confirm or deny that an EV needs to be available to charge to take advantage of this tariff please? Regards, Toodles.
