Posted by: @editor@kev-m, oil was bound to go up, which was our worst case, plan B, scenario. It's difficult to see how this is going to be a "cheap" winter for heating.
Hi Mars,
If you are not fully utilising the output from your solar PV system, you could try doing what we do.
As I have mentioned before, our solar PV initially provides hot water, once the water is up to temperature it switches over to an electric convection heater which puts heat into our home and helps reduce our gas consumption. Because the heater is supplied via the diverter unit, it only uses excess energy which would normally be exported to the grid. You could have a heater up to 3kW.
You could do the same with the second output circuit on your i-boost diverter. It won't heat your whole house, but as they say, every little helps.
It would also pay to record the operating parameters for your ASHP on a daily basis, that way it may be possible to find ways to optimise its operation. I can help if you are not certain how to interpret the operating parameters.
Hi Everyone,
It would appear that Avro Energy have just gone into liquidation. I wonder which supplier I will be offered now?

It is hard to image you will be offered anything better than the standard variable rate price cap in the short term whatever supplier picks up the customers. There are no fixed rates better than the 1st Oct price cap at the time of writing according to moneysavingexpert.
This kicks in from the date the Avro failed so you have already started to pay that.
At least the good news is that thanks to our solar PV system and A2A ASHP, we are only using 2.3 kWh of electricity each day and zero gas, though of course that won't continue forever.
I would personally suggest an EV tariff to anyone on here. They might be creeping up, but they still have lower prices than other places
https://www.zap-map.com/charge-points/ev-energy-tariffs/
"Figures last updated March 2021, but subject to change, with tariffs and/or costs able to be altered or withdrawn by each energy supplier."
I'm not sure these prices are going to be available now. The last time I looked I was going to switch to the Octopus one but it needed a smart meter, which I don't have. I'm now with one of the minnows who could well go bust ☹️
It'll be interesting to see what happens to Symbio. They must be a candidate to go down next. On that note, I'm curious. If your account is in credit with a supplier, and they go bust, do you lose that money?

Hi Mars,
No, you do not lose any money if you are in credit. If you look on the OFGEM website it explains the procedure that will be followed if your suppler goes bust.
@derek-m I am waiting on £300 from Utility point. I was due to get it just a couple of days after they went under. No idea when it will now turn up
@derek-m, thanks Derek.
