We’re exploring the idea of introducing a premium forum section, where homeowners could get guaranteed answers from some of the UK’s top heat pump installers, all of whom are part of the Renewable Heating Hub network and among the most experienced professionals in the industry.

While our community does an excellent job of sharing knowledge and helping each other out, we know that some cases require highly technical expertise that isn’t always readily available.

A few key points:

  • This would be a paid section, ensuring installers are compensated for their time.
  • Replies would be guaranteed, but not immediate... installers would respond when they have availability.

Would this be of interest to you? Reply to this thread or DM me to share your thoughts. Your feedback will help us decide whether to move forward with this initiative, as it would be a significant amount of work to contract installers.

As one of the lucky people who had a smooth install of a simple system (no buffers/external controls) that just works (fingers crossed), in no short measure thanks to this forum, I cant personally see myself using it.

I can see that there is a market for more dedicated advice than the 'amateur'/'volunteer' contributions to this forum provide.  To be truly effective (and possibly sufficiently differentiated) however, I feel that 'next level' advice may need to be either

  1. real time with video link - much of the problem with the current format for giving advice is that it takes a lot of questions to get the information needed to give it, and you don't know what you don't know (about the system/house) or
  2. on-site

I also think there will come a point, possibly early on with the likely 'takers', where its 'fixes' not 'advice' that is required, ie replumbing/reprogramming or whatever.  There appears to be a reluctance in the industry to get involved with other people's installs, and I totally understand why (liability plus the relatively small probability of making any money out of it).

As an off the way thought, resort to such a forum in the case of a new or new-ish install should be covered by the warranty!

In summary all I'm saying is I can definitely see a market, but the product may need some thought.

1. real time with video link

I’ve been working on this behind the scenes as well. We already have Rob on board, but I’ll be adding one or two more top-tier installers who will be available for one-to-one video consultations.

2. on-site

This could be prohibitively expensive, especially as my network of installers is highly selective… we only work with the best in the UK. That naturally limits availability and coverage, but it ensures the advice given is of the highest quality.

There appears to be a reluctance in the industry to get involved with other people’s installs, and I totally understand why (liability plus the relatively small probability of making any money out of it).

That reluctance is definitely there, and I actually covered this issue in a recent article for Flexi-Orb. This is exactly why I think the exclusive forum section and video consultations could work. Homeowners would get expert guidance that they could then use to push their original installer or manufacturer (if the installer has disappeared) to carry out the necessary rectification work.
