Heat pump servicing and maintenance
Mitsubishi Ecodan 14kw ASHP + 500l Cylinder
Mitsubishi Ecodan 14kw ASHP + 500l Cylinder
Posted by: @morganemail received yesterday from my installers. My system was commissioned November 2021 but, see below, it’s first service will be in March 2023. The installers are some distance from us so I may look for somebody closer given the mileage charge.
J L Phillips - Heat Pump Service Price Update:
Dear Customers,
We would like to inform you that effective 01/08/2022, no services will be booked in between 1st November – 1st March. We hope this new structure will allow us to focus on providing a better service for any call outs and issues you may have over the winter period. If you have a service due during this time, please ring to get scheduled in before if possible.
We would also like to inform you that we now outsource our service and call out visits. We are working very closely with Enviro Heating to provide you with the best service we can. Dan and his team are specially trained in Mitsubishi, Nibe and Daikin Heat Pumps.
With the change in structure, we have also had a slight change in our prices.
Please see our updated prices below:
Services:
Heat Pump 0-17kW - £224 + Mileage (@63p) + VAT
Heat Pump 18-60kW - £350 + Mileage (@63p) + VAT
Solar Thermal – Can vary depending on how many systems are serviced in the same day.
Call Outs:

Yup I got this too. I had mine done April 2022. The guy who came really knew his stuff but it still seems like a lot for not more than an hour's work
Retrofitted 11.2kw Mitsubishi Ecodan to new radiators commissioned November 2021.
14 x 500w Monocrystalline solar panels.
2 ESS Smile G3 10.1 batteries.
ESS Smile G3 5kw inverter.
Just received our reminder email for a service visit from our ASHP installer. This will be our first service given we only got it installed about 13 months ago.
The prices we were given were £199 + vat for a single service or £796 + vat for 5 annual services (i.e. 5 years for the price of 4). Compared with the prices bandied about here that seems pretty reasonable and is certainly so when compared with the oil boiler services we used to have.
The service breakdown shows the visit covers:
- Pressure check of system
- Heat pump circuit filter – checked and cleaned
- Valve check
- Water stops check
- Primary system full check
- Refrigerant check and top up if required
- Air check in system
- Fuse check to the electrical supply
- Temperature settings check
- Thermostat check
- Yield performance check
- Anti-freeze checked and topped up if required
- All motorized valves checked
- System checked for leaks
How much of this is money for old rope is, to my mind, largely irrelevant since I don't have the time to do it myself. More importantly, though, them listing out the detail means they're giving themselves no wiggle room if they don't do any of the steps, so it does give me some confidence the service will be more of a turning up, sucking of teeth, kick the unit a couple of times and accept a cup of tea.

@majordennisbloodnok, one thing that appears to be missing (which we found very helpful, but it may not apply to everyone) is checking and cleaning the filters and also "backwashing" the heat exchanger in the ASHP unit itself as it can get a build up of corrosive bits if your system is 100% clean and that'll assist with better efficiency.

@majordennisbloodnok I’m paying £264 per year for 10 years to Daikin. This covers annual service, call-outs, parts and labour if anything goes wrong. I’m happy.
Daikin Altherma 3H HT 12kWh ASHP with Mixergy h/w cylinder; 4kW solar PV with Solic 200 electric diverter; Honda e and new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N electric vehicles with Myenergi Zappi mk1 charger
NRM Plumbing and Heating (St Neots, Cambs), £120+VAT. According to the invoice, checked the filters, glycol mix, outdoor unit. I didn't ask for a list of the checks. Since the system is only a year old there's nothing much to do. Took about an hour.
I'm happy to keep an eye on most things myself, but Grant require an annual service for the warranty.
