Enabling WiFi: Samsung ASHP on Smart Things App
Hi
Just had the full works Eco4 install. Including a Samsung ASHP. It has the std MIM-E03EN control panel. On the connection tab it has WiFi and it seems to be enabled but I can't detect it or use their Smart things app. Is it telling porkies or am I missing something?
Hi,
You would need the MIM-H04EN in order to use it with the smartthings app. This would be in addition to the 03 variant.
I purchased mine from https://www.wickes.co.uk/Samsung-MIM-H04EN-EHS-Advanced-Wifi-Receiver-2-0/p/293850. and it came next day. There is a small amount of wiring required to hook it up to the existing MIM
Hi
Many thanks. It just seems odd that the display indicates that the unit has WiFi and it's On.
@netdonkey Thanks for the advice. I suspect this is the reason why I also can’t connect to my outdoor unit or MIM-E03EN.
Once you have the wifi unit installed, what data does it offer in SmartThings? I am hoping to access daily/weekly/monthly energy used, hours used and energy generated. I’d like to use this data to understand season trends in energy usage and to calculate a SCOP. But if SmartThings doesn’t allow access to that I may need another solution.
If you have any screenshots of what it shows that would be great.

Do you have heat meter and electric meter that reads all input electric to the heat pump system only - if not it could be a very vague SCoP.
@johnmo yes, the Samsung indoor unit records this data and it’s possible to view it on the indoor display if I go into the garage and press lots of buttons. But it would be more convenient for me to view this through an app or website.
Since my ASHP heat pump was commissioned a week ago the COP has been 3.5.

Mine has been doing a CoP of -3.18, yes negative, combination of cooling, DHW heating.
Assume you are just doing DHW?
The data the heat pump collects isn't that precise. It will not have a metering class flow meter or metering quality temperature measurement. But it's fine for a comparison as time goes by.
@grahamh-uk I looked into adding a Wifi kit to my Samsung ASHP install but due to my controller being in the boiler room and having a third party thermostat, I was advised the kit would not work properly.
I have since moved the controller into the house and the controller has now been re-configured to be the thermostat, so I may take a fresh look at the Wifi kit. It sounds like you are using a third party thermostat so I would suggest you check the fact it will work before spending your hard earn dosh 🙂

@technogeek Hi, I've been using the Hive thermostat and WiFi controller for 6 months now. All fine. Means I can access it remotely and fine tune the routine
Thanks.
@profzarkov I use one of our ‘old’ gas boiler installation’s Hive P(Programmable) TRV’s in our bedroom. The rest of the emitters are ‘open’ with redundant TRV’s sitting on top of the valve bodies just for adornment purposes only. The Hive PTRV uses my original Hive app and with its’ hub connected to ethernet, I have control via my iPhone/iPad as required. Regards, Toodles.

@technogeek @johnmo @netdonkey I made some progress, but not all I hoped for. I bought and installed the MIM-H04EN WiFi unit and connected it to the indoor unit of my Samsung ASHP (MIM-E03EN). I now have the ASHP connected to the SmartThings app and can see the heating and DHW status and current/target temperatures.
But, I was told by the Samsung engineers that I would be able to use this to monitor energy usage by the ASHP. That’s not working and the SmartThings app declares the ASHP as an unsupported device for energy monitoring. So I’m still going to have to go into the garage and press buttons if I want to see daily/weekly/monthly energy usage.
There is the possibility of using the EHS cloud monitoring tool, but then I’ll need an installer code to access that. Does anyone here have any tips for how to access ASHP data online once the unit is connected to wifi?
