[Sticky] Heat Pump Books For Beginners – The Ultimate Guide to Heat Pumps, Bodge Buster & From Zero To Heat Pump Hero
@odd_lion will email you on Thursday. Just need to check if I have any more copies of Bodge Buster, or do you just want Hero?

@editor I suspect I need both. We're still trying to get rid of our gas combi, but several false starts (including Octopus) and rather half-hearted installer quotations later I'm still trying to figure out how. I suspect I'll need both books to get my head around what we need to do. Thanks in advance!

@odd_lion I still have two copies of Bodge Buster left (with a quite a few From Zero to Heat Pump Hero) and have sent you an email as promised.

@editor I purchased both books from Amazon and read this morning, I found them informative and I am thinking of getting a few Zero to Hero books to give to clients when they want a better understanding of the Tech.

Professional installer. Book a one-to-one consultation for pre- and post-installation advice, troubleshooting and system optimisation.
@ashp-bobba, thank you for your support. It’s always incredibly encouraging to hear when someone from the industry finds the books useful. Writing from a place of experience rather than absolute expertise can feel daunting at times, so feedback like yours truly means a lot.

@editor Many thanks Mars, this will be my Christmas reading, and hopefully jump start my heat pump search!

Hi Mars,
I bought the zero to hero book mainly for my wife as it is a great explainer of heat pumps. I have been on this journey for a while now nose deep in YouTube university!! I love your podcasts by the way, along with Heat Geeks, Urban Plumbers, etc so I was pretty au fait with the subject already. One suggestion I would make is to include the actual formulas (or is it formulae??) for things like COP etc. Other than that great resource and thanks for this forum as it has already helped me get a grip with baseline settings for my newly (bodged) install of a Grant Aerona3 on the ECO4 scheme.
Regards
Si.
Kind Regards

@grantmethestrength, thanks so much for the feedback. It’s always great to hear what people find useful and where they’d like to see more. I’ve actually just finished updating Bodge Buster, and the new version is now available (as of this week). It includes a foreword by Graham Hendra, more actionable content and detailed explanations of what I consider the key focus areas during pre-installations.
I’ve also started updating From Zero to Heat Pump Hero because people are looking for more actionable advice rather than just explanations. Adding more formulas is a fantastic suggestion, and I’ll definitely incorporate that into the next version.
Thanks again for your input. It’s really helpful as I work on making these books as practical and useful as possible.

I’ve updated Bodge Buster for 2025 to empower homeowners with the knowledge and questions they need to ensure their air source heat pump system is installed correctly. From questioning the need for buffer tanks or volumisers, to verifying system volume, heat pump sizing and ensuring weather compensation is activated, this book gives you the tools to hold your installer accountable and avoid costly mistakes.
And the book now also features a foreword from Graham Hendra.
A heat pump is a big investment, and a poor installation can lead to higher bills, cold rooms and endless headaches. Don’t gamble with your home’s heating… arm yourself with the knowledge to ask the right questions and ensure your system is installed and commissioned properly. Available in print and Kindle.

Hi
I, like others, avoid Amazon for ethical reasons. Would I be able to buy a copy of the updated Zero to Hero from you directly?
Thanks , Topher
@topher you’re more than welcome to, yes. I’ll send you an email with details tomorrow.
