@derek-m Hi there, apologies for piggy backing on this thread.

I'm up in North Wales too with a 15KW Vaillant Arotherm ASHP with the VRC700 controller. We’ve recently discovered the heat compensation with the adaptive heat curve was turned off by the original installer. We’ve turned this on and selected the 0.8 heat curve but the “target flow temp” in the “heating 1” menu doesn’t seem to be reducing as we’d expect with all the warm weather we’ve been having. Our electricity consumption has also remained consistent with figures before turning on the adaptive heat curve.

is there likely to be another setting we’ve missed we need to change too?

many thanks in advance for your help,

Kind regards,

Simon

Hi Simon,

I will try to give relevant advice, but I am not certain what equipment you have and how your system is configured.

So that we are both referring to the same information, what manuals do you have?

Do you have a VRC 693 or VRC 9535 Outdoor Temperature Sensor installed and if so where is it located?

Can you access the Installer Level settings?

If you have a copy of the installers manual then check the settings for the 'minimum flow temperature for the heating circuit' section 7.7.12 and the 'maximum flow temperature for the heating circuit' section 7.7.13.

Where is your VRC 700 installed in your home? Is it in the living area or utility room? Do you have any further controls?

I think that is enough questions for the moment.

@derek-m Hi Derek, I am very busy with work at the moment, but I have found there is a 6kW electric heater in the hydraulic station which heats the water in the hydraulic station which is circulated around the coil in the DHW tank, I would have thought it would be more economical to use the immersion heater to heat the water over 60 degrees?. I have turned off the setting which gives the option for the 6kw heater to heat DHW, heating or both, and I am going to buy a Solic and see if that will heat it to over 60 degrees regularly enough.

On the VRC700 in the menu time programmes, there are 3 options, Zone 1, DHW and circulation. The circulation is set 06:00 to 22:00, which is the same as Zone1 is set, why is there this setting for circulation surely the circulation should only be on when the heating or DHW is on?

Thanks,

John

If my memory serves me well from when I read through the Vaillant manual quite a few months ago now, the 6kW Booster or Backup Heater (I can't remember which) is predominantly to support the heat pump when the outside air temperature goes sub-zero to the point where the heat pump is struggling. I always recommend that this feature be disable, and if the temperature should fall to -10C or -15C and the heat pump is struggling, then buy a 2kW or 3kW fan heater to boost the indoor temperature.

Dependent upon the size of your solar array and your hot water usage, you should find that you get free hot water for much of the year.

Without looking through the manual again, I suspect circulation is where the water pump is switched on periodically to circulate the water, and check whether the heat pump needs to start the compressor and produce warm water.

@derek-m we only have 2.4 kW of solar facing south east, I am not sure how much is being fed to the grid because the meter has not been set up to show this (this will be asked soon in the solar forum) but generally on a sunny day at the moment at least 1kW is spare and going to the grid between 8:30 and 3:30 pm and I receive nothing for it. So makes sense to fit diverter before saving up for some more panels.

Re the circulation pump that makes some sense it has defaulted to the same hrs as zone 1 is set too, will try and find it in the manual this evening
