@tim441 I’ll endeavour to make a new recording tomorrow now the incessant rains have gone on leave and the temperature is in the region of 2 degrees C. Being a weekday, the traffic is likely to be ‘normal’ so the readings may well say more about the ambient noise than the sound emanating from the ASHP. Regards, Toodles.

@derek-m Derek, unless one operative with one set of measuring instruments visits each site and carries out a strict routine to take all these measurements using the same weighting scheme, you are not likely to be able to put together such an idealistic and meaningful survey. Even such measurements might need repeating perhaps three times and the average of these be used. I took it that what Mars was asking for was a ‘snapshot’ of the nature of the sound relative to other prevailing conditions - if it is to be a scientifically credible and statistically meaningful comparison and statement of ‘Noise’ heard coming from a range of heat pumps, then I feel you are being more ambitious than some of us might be prepared to be! (I include myself in this as being a retired audio technician / sound engineer, I know just how myriad factors can influence such measurements); unless all these factors are controlled or removed, I feel results would still be subject to far too many variations - never mind interpretations. I know you wish to strive for accuracy and credibility, however, practicalities might mean this is extremely difficult to achieve. I think a set of standard tests in a controlled environment with a range of manufacture’s units might be the way to go for consistency but look what happened when measurements were taken of C02 emissions in certain automobiles. Regards, Toodles.

I made a new recording this morning when the OAT was 1.6 degrees C and the LWT was shown by Onecta app as 45 degrees C. I have not forwarded this for as I explained to Mars, the readings are almost identical and with the same amount of variation over a few seconds as when a recording was made at about 8 degrees C. I feel that I am actually registering the ambient level that is much influenced by local traffic conditions. The noise level does not appear to change even with the pump switched off; I appreciate that the ASHP does contribute to the overall level, but, has very little impact on the readings for the average level varies by some 4 dB or more from moment to moment - so the average is all I can compare! (A thought, perhaps if we have heavy snow and minus temperatures one day, traffic will stop and I can get a more meaningful reading!) Regards,Toodles.

Buying? Wash your mouth out! I thought that procurement of cones was either by nicking them or ny being married to an MP. and securing a contract to supply! Regards, Toodles.

Good morning all, new member - I have sent you my video this morning.....there are some background builders spikes but the levels are sticking around high 40db's - I was 3 meters away and the AOT is 2 degrees and we're maintaining a 19 degree inside temp. Db Seems high!
@dannymoss23, thanks for sending and I've added it to the next video. Will need five more before that video goes live. What the make and model please @dannymoss23?

The noise of my neighbour's Heat Pump is killing me. Are there any good APPs for recording and checking the noise.
There are several noise meter apps and one in particular for recording nuisance, which many local authorities will recommend you use. Can't remember the name though.
Edit - found it https://noisenuisance.org/noise-app/
4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
I’m trying source some heat pump videos in rural or garden settings to use as b roll. If you’re interested, please DM me. Ideally, I need them shot creatively, in 4K, landscape/horizontal orientation.
Sound is not important and the heat pump does not have be on or running.

I could do you a video of these organic heat-pumps.
Ideal for a "bee role"...
They emit a low hum, and never freeze in winter.
