Community Action Event - Heat Pumps – Fact or Fiction? 06Feb25
This is a very rare opportunity for such a huge amount of knowledge and expertise to be in the same room at the same time. There will be presentations and exhibition tables full of useful information. There will also be people who have installed heat pumps who are willing to share their real-life experiences.
Free to attend, but booking is essential via TicketTailorusing this link – or scan the QR code in the event info below: https://buytickets.at/stokeclimslandcommunityproject/1461233
Tamar Energy Community, Dartmoor Energy, Community Energy Plus, Cornwall Council and University of Plymouth will all be taking part and will join a panel for a Q&A session.
Doors open from 1700.
This meeting will be of interest to you if:
- you have any type of boiler and want it to operate as efficiently as possible
- you are curious about heat pumps
- you already have a heat pump and want to optimise its performance
Typically, around 80% of domestic energy use will be for space heating and hot water. So having an efficient heating system can have a profoundly positive impact on reducing energy consumption.
Central heating consists of a boiler (which produces heat) and a heating system (which distributes heat around the house). There could be some straightforward changes, which you can make to your heating system and/or your boiler settings which will reduce your energy use and costs.
The best way to do this is to find out about becoming ‘heat pump ready’ so that you have a plan for the changes you would like to make over time, which is the best plan for you and your home. Never rely upon what you read in the tabloid press!
This meeting is arranged by local volunteers in collaboration with Tamar Energy Community and Dartmoor Energy and is funded by the Parish Council. Light refreshments provided and the bar will be open.
Attendees from England should note that this event is being held West of the River Tamar between 1730 and 1900
That's due to the Newcomen engine arriving at 1714, and Trevithick not until 1804.
Passports can be stamped at Horsebridge.
Englishmen should return soon after 1900 so that their country can catch up with Kernow, and start their own industrial revolution. 😉
Save energy... recycle electrons!
This event went ahead and we had a packed hall with around 45 people attending.
This event illustrates the role and importance of grassroots practical community action to provide an opportunity to support households to become more informed about their homes and their options for, in this case, having an efficient heating system.
A comprehensive handout has been produced which can be accessed via the QR code below ...
This will take you to a PowerPoint file on OneDrive so you will need a Microsoft account to access the handout.
A write-up from the event has been published in the March 2025 edition of the Stoke Climsland Old School News, page 8:
Four presentations were delivered at this meeting and these can be found via the Tamar Energy Community website:

Thank you to Stoke Climsland Parish Council who funded this event and to all the presenters and Q&A panel members.
