Posted by: @batalto@jeff that gas rate is more than my current peak rate for electricity... OUCH
If it is any consulation the gas vs electricity multiple is only 2.81 with these high rates making a stronger case for heat pumps if this turns out to be the new normal.
My fixed rate gas rate is currently 2.75p plus vat.
I’ve begrudgingly accepted the Eon fixed contract at 34p pkWh today. We’ll pay more from now until April from when the capped price should be similar. It will save us some money after the next hike in October when we consume the most electricity over winter heating the house.
Our projected cost for the year is now £11,900
Time to buy some more lottery tickets.
Mitsubishi Ecodan 14kw ASHP + 500l Cylinder
@George, I'm really annoyed because I forgot to sign up this weekend when the rate was 29p – today it's 34p.

I don't really know what to say to that. That's just astonishing.
@editor EDF 2 year fixed tariff has gone up again. Now 46.77p day, 22.25p night for electricity. Was "only" 33.39p and 20.20p on 23rd Feb.

Grant Aerona HPID10 10kWh ASHP
@mike-patrick, it's frightening at how fast this is all shooting up. I don't keep tabs on mains gas at all, but is it going up at the same rate as electricity?

I am 100% getting more batteries this year. At these prices, they will pay for themselves in months vs years. You can get something like 5kw for £1,500 delivered. If I have 4kwh usable that's worth if you can fill them up every day
£146 @ 10p/kw
£292 @ 20p/kw
£438 @ 30p/kw
£584 @ 40p/kw
£730 @ 50p/kw
The value becomes even larger in the shoulder seasons or if you have some kind of time of use tariff you can arbitrage.
