@justinsb I'll check out Neon Reef once our switch to E.ON from Symbio is completed – will be interesting to see how long they stay afloat.

Just tried to get a quote from Neon Reef, but when input your consumption and click get a quote nothing comes up. Anyone else getting that error?

Yes same problem, either they are revaluing prices or they might be the next company to go. Reading recent energy reviews Neon reef is not mentioned as "safe".

Maybe something to do with it?
Got our welcome email from E.ON this weekend as part of the forced switch after Symbio tanked: “You'll pay a standing charge of 28.04p per day and 23.17p/kWh for each unit of electricity.”
This makes running our heat pump on electricity ridiculously expensive. In fact, it’s double the price because our rate with Symbio this time last year was 11.5p/kWh.
As per the email it’ll still take weeks before we can try to switch. Looked at Octopus today, and also can’t get a quote. I don’t think suppliers want new customers because of the price cap - it’s a dire situation.

Have you got an Economy 7 meter Mars? That does help a bit with the day/night cost difference and I am looking at trialling boosting our UFH a couple of degrees during the cheap rate electric, hopefully that would knock the day usage down a bit. I found Octopus had no interest in putting me on the 'Go' tariff when I asked despite being an existing customer, sadly I think it's a sellers market and for the foreseeable future too.
@siko, no we don’t have an economy 7 metre. Energy providers are definitely not encouraging switching and I suspect high tariffs are here to stay throughout the winter.

I also received my new tariffs standing charge of 29.48p per day and 21.48p/kWh. I can take solace that oil has increased as well, costing approximately the same per KW for heating. I do feel the energy market is distorted to favour gas usage. Electricity generation is approx 40-50% by gas but appears to be paying the majority cost for higher gas prices. Here in Scotland gas generation is approximately 15% and we bear the same cost increase. The energy market needs a complete overhaul to accommodate new technologies. The cost of this technology needs to be spread across all fuels. Alternatively, the government needs to use their money creation powers to invest heavily in renewables which would benefit everyone through cheaper prices and also being environmentally friendly.
Neon Reef have gone. Was only a matter of time.
I try to look on the bright side; in my brief time with them I'll have saved about £80 compared to the cap.
