Hi everyone, 2 (perhaps slightly special) questions on the Vaillant controls:

1. I understand an arotherm plus always comes with a heat pump control interface module. Is it possible to not have a sensocomfort or VRC 700, but still use weather compensation? That would mean I would select the weather compensation curve and set the hot water mode on the heat pump control interface (as opposed to on the sensocomfort or VRC 700). I assume I wouldn’t be able to set up a schedule or set-backs without sensocomfort or VRC 700?
2. If I would install the myVaillant Connect, without sensocomfort or VRC 700, would I be able to use the Vaillant app, and set the schedules that I would like?
Can anyone help?

I messaged a contact at Vaillant who responded to me tonight saying you will need the controller to set the weather compensation curve, set programmes, etc., but you don’t need to use it as an internal thermostat because you can change room control to inactive and it will then run solely on weather compensation.

Thanks for checking Mars!

It's strange though, because the Vaillant documentation does say that the Sensocomfort is optional. See illustration on page 6 here. So surely that must mean that I could configure my system via the heat pump control interface module (the VWZ AI)?

And the documentation of the VWZ AI does seem to indicate that I could set a heating curve. See page 19 here.

Could you double check with your contact whether the Vaillant documentation online is just incorrect?
Or whether it's a matter of "you could run your system without Sensocomfort, but we recommend the Sensocomfort on top".

Many thanks!

I called Vaillant's technical service today. They weren't able to give a 100% definitive answer so we'll have to test I think.

@hcas, so this is the honest feedback from Vaillant. Technically, yes, you can set the system up without a controller, however, they would strongly advise that you don’t as you would lose the load compensation that you get with the sensoCOMOFRT and the ability to control your hot water system. They don’t ever commission a system in this way or advise doing it, and Vaillant's official stance is you "can’t", but theoretically it can be done.

Let us know how you get along.

THANK YOU Mars! This is very close to the feeling I had after my call earlier today.
