Electronic smart TRVs and our ASHP
@editor Thanks MARS - I will certainly take a look. I'm all for making life as simple as possible - and I found the Tado worked very well when I had the Oil boiler - partly because I combined the TRVs with room thermostats. This gave a much more accurate reading of the room temp. and these could be set to override the sensors in the TRV. But the TRVs were opened and shut and controlled by the room thermostat. Thanks for your help
I'm a bit old fashioned when it comes to trvs, electronic or not. On my system I chucked the trvs away and balanced the system with the lockshield rad valves. If you heat pump is weather compensating the trvs will hardly move and are pretty much redundant. The heat pump will alter the radiator temperature so you won't want to alter the amount if water entering the rads with a trv. If you are not weather compensating and the plumber didn't balance your system your trvs will be working overtime.
Trvs are used to balance your system automatically. That's all they do.

@grahamh Thanks, Graham. I have been playing around and changing various settings on the ashp and the Easytron trvs and have got a reasonable operating system now. But as you say - what it is really is a sophisticated way of balancing the system, and in fact, that is really how I am using them now. The only advantage as far as I can tell is that I have three rooms that are only used every few weeks or so, two others that are only used for a short time each day and I can have the flow through these rads set up to change automatically as and when. Also means that bedrooms can be warmed up before going to bed and getting up and living rooms the other way round.
