Could someone point me in the direction of a reasonably simple way in which energy consumption and usage might be collected? I am interested in overall efficiency, but also information which will assist in integration of solar into the equation.

At my age, I cannot justify a large investment in hardware to achieve this.

Do you really need to do anything. I tried to do clever things then realised, the heat pump is most efficient ticking over all the time, it naturally makes use of all PV it can use, so deleted all the smart stuff and leave the ASHP to get on with it.

Firstly, I should have made it clear that I am on a 3 phase supply in Portugal and it doesn't look as though I am going to get anything for energy exported to EDP.

I have tuned the heat pump to a reasonable standard on Weather Compensation, although I still have one more change to make and will see how this winter goes.

My main interest now is in integrating the newly installed solar PV.

I have some Smart Home so I am looking at a Tuya Smart 3 Phase ZigBee Energy Meter:

I don't either, just use a PV diverter to an immersion charge the cylinder to 70 degrees, could just as easily be a panel heater in the winter.

I did try to put an Amazon link in for the ZigBee device but it didn't work so have tried again below.

On advice from others, I have decided that using the heat pump for DHW around midday, is more economical that buying and using a PV diverter/ immersion heater and this is just one of the areas that I would like to measure energy usage.

@davidalgarve I am unsure if this is the problem I sometime experience but having writted my prose, I try to attach a link (URL) that I have ‘copied’ but this hub doesn’t see anything to place in the text.

I have taken to putting the link into a page in Apple’s ‘Notes’ and then selecting that link and requesting ‘copy link’. I am then able to paste that link into my prose like this:

Thanks Toodles. Will try to remember.

On the substance of my original question, i.e. best device to record power used for ASHP, I have looked at reviews of many 3 phase devices and in the absence of any suggestions, I have finally ordered a Shelly 3EM so will see how I go with this.

This is a WiFi device and I would have preferred a Zigbee, but it was on a special offer.

Yes, so I understand. However, I took a different route on “SmartHome” and use a Hubitat hub. I won’t be doing anything sophisticated with the Shelly, just getting, hopefully, an accurate consumption figure to compare with the Ecodan ASHP figures and thus help in optimising integration with newly installed solar.

I was surprised that no one came up with any alternatives.
