When will they arrive?
What date, or temperature, do you think the hordes of people with "how can I lower the cost of my heat pump?" Will turn up on the forum?
Bonus points for the amount of people who refuse to make any changes to the settings when it's recommended they turn down the flow temperatures and use weather compensation.
How about a sticky post to help people out?
take them through the steps
Might save a lot of repetition!
250sqm house. 30kWh Sunsynk/Pylontech battery system. 14kWp solar. Ecodan 14kW. BMW iX.

It is not quite that simple, since the required procedure can be very different from manufacturer to manufacturer.
There is also the problems associated with different home types and layouts to quite differing system designs. What can work well in one situation may not be particularly good in another.
If only everyone had homely….. there’s zero reason for a person to have to figure this out when an algorithm can do a better job…
Off grid on the isle of purbeck
2.4kW solar, 15kWh Seplos Mason, Outback power systems 3kW inverter/charger, solid fuel heating with air/air for shoulder months, 10 acres of heathland/woods.
My wife’s house: 1946 3 bed end of terrace in Somerset, ASHP with rads + UFH, triple glazed, retrofit IWI in troublesome rooms, small rear extension.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think that Homely can identify that ones system has been poorly designed and badly installed. Also can Homely identify that a system has been incorrectly configured, and explain how to configure the system correctly?

Probably the 1st November, after whoever is Chancellor has explained how much everyone's bills are likely to increase in the future.
A wild guess at 1% for those who refuse to make changes, when given the opportunity, but possibly 20% who don't have confidence to do so themselves, or cannot afford to pay someone, or have a landlord who will not pay for it to be done.

It will take the time clock and room stats out of the equation, so there goes the number one cause of short cycling. It switches the heating from a fixed flow temperature to weather comp, and automatically learns and sets the curve.
Those things there are basically the first steps that everyone with an incorrectly configured heatpump needs to do, so I think it automates those steps pretty well?
You have it installed, you tell it what temperature you want, it does the rest... Automatically, without you having to ever go into your heat pump controller menu.

Can Homely perform this miraculous fete for all the different makes and models of heat pump? I seem to remember that some involve DIP Switch changes. I would be interested to know how it would achieve that.

It supports midea and samsung at the moment, but they are adding more. If the heatpump has an rs485 module, you’re good to go.

@hughf, have you got a Homely?
It seems very helpful if you’ve had a decent install. I’m not sure it would improve our system greatly due to the reducing pipe bore in the north end of the house. I’ve been conducting experiments for a fortnight now and it’s frustrating when you retrofit a system not knowing what’s behind the walls.

Last year we had an influx in November. I think a lot of homes haven’t fired up their heating yet. When they do, and they get their first high bill that’s when they’ll seek advice.
I’ve learned to turn ours on in October to negate last minute dramas. Touch wood, the heat pump is doing its thing.

@derek-m, you’re spot on. There’s no silver bullet. Every system is so unique and requires a different approach. So there’ll be some repetition for sure, but most of the advice will have to be provided specifically for each set up and each heat pump.
