This might be an interesting concept.  Visit different types of homes around the country to see working heat pumps and speak with the owners.

Might be of interest to people mulling over the idea of going ahead.

Interesting find @morgan. Just had a look around the site, and I really don't know what to make of it really. Interesting on some levels, and helpful for people to see heat pumps in action.

@editor I have sent an initial contact to them and referred them to my article published in this ‘august organ’😊 to see if I can assist them in my area. If organised well, I think it could be a good scheme. Regards, Toodles.

Super interesting to see that a number of you have signed up. Apart from allowing people to see your heat pump in action, are there any other perks or benefits?

The cautious side of me raises initial concerns in that the website won't be vetting the legitimacy of visitors to your property which raises some potential security concerns.

@editor Yeap, the ‘security’ aspect is my one concern and will have to see whether there are any form of safeguards being built in, though I am not sure how they might be implimented - will have to see how they set it all up.

The ‘Perks or benefits’ of which you speak Mars: This I feel is not a case of any direct benefits but just that possibly assisting others to help go ‘renewable’. No matter what any government does, (short of public funds being used to cover the total cost of all installations - and I don’t think this idea would ever even reach the taxiing point, never mind take off!) no incentives are likely to be as effective as measures to ensure more and far better records of good quality designs and installations and ‘ show and tell’ visits to the already converted. I find that most people are sceptical of the whole idea of having a heat pump and many will find no end of excuses to put off any such plans including ‘my house is too old’, ‘I live in a listed property’ or ‘I don’t have a space for a heat pump’. The future improvements in design, size and cost could go a long way to improve such matters but seeing one or more installations in a potential users’ own locale could go a long way. Come on - we can do it!!!😊😉 Regards, totally sold Toodles.

@toodles Totally agree, perhaps I am a bit trusting about motives but I take the view that its my duty to get as many people on the green boat as possible. Ive probably 'turned' four properties towards heat pumps so far and I think it would be easy to tell someone who is genuinely interested from someone who isnt.

@bontwoody Yes, I think you are right; gut feeling has a lot to be said for it - even if courts don’t accept it as ‘evidence’!😉 Regards, Toodles.

As someone who is reading all the 'guide books', but has still to plan a 'journey', perhaps my largest concern is to be confident of engaging a competent installer who understands fluid and thermal dynamics. Even here, it's as easy to find tales of woe as very satisfied owners. My largest emitters are furthest from my existing boiler and are connected with 10mm microbore set into the walls, so appropriate care is required, I believe. I also need to consider the requirements of my good wife, who will wish to avoid any significant domestic disruption.

I had considered the option of one or two A-A heat pumps as supplement heat sources (with the advantage of providing cooling in summer) and would be interested in the chance to view examples. My good wife is very sensitive to noise and dislikes the idea of anything indoors with a fan, so if anyone can recommend a silent indoor unit......

@ianmk13 That list looks like a challenge for the more experienced (and knowledgable) contributors on this forum! One thing I have picked up on though is the need to keep the ‘Boss’ happy and with microbore pipework buried in the wall, you could do worse than contact Adam the Heat Geek presenter. Adam did one presentation on using existing microbore pipework and he seemed to indicate that a successful installation can still be carried out with this restriction. Regards and good luck on your journey. Toodles.

Here is a link to one of a number of Adam’s presentations on the subject of microbore piping.

@ianmk13 We have a large kitchen and opted to install an A2A unit in it rather than take up the walls with radiators. We had experience of using them when we lived abroad. It works well  and is not noticeably noisy (at least to our ears). Its a Mitsubishi unit. Happy to let you view it if you are anywhere near West Wales.
