That would almost certainly be madness.  Seriously.  You have come this far and have all the components for a working system.  Persist and prove your plumber wrong.

That said, it really would be good if you posted/reposted a system diagram so that everyone who has contributed (including me) can be sure they haven't missed something that also needs to be done.  Also it really is necessary in order to check that the plumber doesn't inadvertently make a mistake.  So please post/repost a system diagram, however crude.

Once again for the avoidance of doubt any advice is given in good faith based on limited knowledge of your system.  No responsibility is taken for the outcome.

@jamespa

Please accept my apologies for my "circuit Diagram".......................one of things I have trying to find is a drawing package for plumbing  under linux.

The Plumber was the same company that  installed my previous three  gas boilers , and a solid dependable character.

We will work together on the upgrade.

As my old journeyman used to say "the man who has not made a mistake has not made anything!"................

We will, doubtless  make mistakes

Don't worry james,  I could not afford 10 seconds of  advocate fees at the Court of Session, in Edinburgh ............you are safe!!

@iantelescope

Thanks.  That's great.

Can you also tell us

Where in Scotland are you roughly (to work out the climate)?

What's the rough floor area and construction of your house?

How often and for how long do you suffer from power cuts.

The reason for asking this is to think about how important anti freeze valves are and also whether you are likely to need to retain the 'buffer tank' repurposed as a correctly plumbed volumiser.

Locn : I am  on the  river Clyde near Glasgow.

Cold Weather:

In Dec 2022 through Jan 2023 the Heat Pump Performed many de-iceing routines with spectacular rectangular, 8x8x2 m  clouds being formed above the heat Pump.

I tested the manual de-icing routine within the Heat Pump cabinet  itself . The Heat Pump de-icing was still working with the Buffer tank dumping Hot water into the heat pump as designed by Samsung-Dallium.

The Heat Pump itself issued "over consumption errors " , i,e > 21 kWh/day over many days during December 2023  and much of January 2024.,

My garaged car recorded temperatures of about -6 C at night.

My Monthly energy consumption increased to 650 kWh for Dec 2022.

The pipe Water set to +45 C when the outside Temperature fell below -5 C using the Water Law as recommended by Samsung.

No power cuts lately .

Dec / Jan 2023/2024  was milder , with the Heat Pump only occasionally issuing over consumption errors. No clouds were produced!

I think you are right ......I will have to keep the Buffer Tank.................................... but install valves at Both ends of the Buffer Tank  this time!

@toodles

Another success for Solar Panel Salesmen.

After receiving 6 different quotes from 4 different Solar Panel installers , I put their Results into the Energy Savings Trust Energy Calculator .

Clearly , Only One company had put my house into the EST Energy Calculator !

Only one company was telling the truth , the whole truth , and nothing but the truth.

All the others simply assumed that their Solar Panels would be 90% efficient at my location  , multiplying their  assumed Solar Panel power by 90% !

Thanks.  I imagine the location is humid hence the clouds!

The basic plan you have with the plumber is correct but there may be a couple of tweaks/additional recommendations to make.  @johnmo, @derek-m, @mars and I have agreed to give a coordinated response so we can offer the best amateur advice and help possible.  It will take a few days as we want to review it before publishing and all have other commitments.  We would be grateful if you would answer in the meantime time any questions we ask as it will help clarify our response.

Two more questions and one request:

What's the make and model of your thermostat?

When is the plumber due to come or is this not yet organised?

I presume the diagram was done in libre office draw or similar.  Can you post it in it's original format so we can annotate it?

Also you didn't answer rough size and construction of house.  Please could you give us something to go on re this.

My Thermostat is a Honeywell home T3700RF0096-1.

A good all purpose Thermostat but programmed with a fixed cycle period of optionally 3 or 6 or 12 cycles per hour.

The Honeywell instruction book gives one cycle  per hour as an option, But my Thermostat does not have a once per hour option.

My Plumber has several jobs to complete before appearing , initially, to discuss the Heat Pump rebuild.

The actual work is expected to take two days to complete.

Here is my libreOffice  Draw Linux Pump Diagram with permission :

Cannot get the renewable Heating Hub site to accept Linux LibreOffice drawings with permission, just crashing, !

Sorry @johnmo , The Renewable Hub cannot accept many standard Linux format files.

I can usually translate them into Jpg ,Pdf et al , but often not .
