Cleaning  pipes ?

A recent Solar panel salesman visitor was appalled by the state of my "horror" , my Heat Pump.

Fascinated by the colour of the pipe water he asked  about the cleaning costs only to be further appalled by last years  £600 bill,  saying that he  would clean the pipes for £120!

Glycol in primary circuit ?

No , I do not have glycol in either primary or secondary circuit .

The primary circuit appears to be filled with "ink".!

In that case do you have anti freeze valves in the primary outdoors?

Am I Paranoid?

With No one , be it Plumber or Heat Pump installer appearing  willing or able to help with my Heat Pump rebuild, am I Paranoid, or is this industry,  frightened of  the exposure on this , and other sites.?

Neither.  It's just that the industry has plenty of work so prefers low risk jobs.  In this circumstance nobody is likely to take on a bodged system which they end up assuming responsibility for.

So your only hope in my view is to make your job simple and low risk also and describe the job in a way that makes it clear you are taking responsibility.  I made a suggestion a few posts ago how you might go about this.  There is no guarantee anyone will 'bite' however I would think it worth a try.  I would send the sow (ideally with photos of the places where the plumbing is needed) to at least 5 local plumbers, better still all the plumbers you can find within say 10-15 miles, and see what happens.

Given that it is one, at most two days work I would actually be surprised if you don't get at least one response.  However if you don't get any sane responses you will have exhausted the options so can move on.

Can anyone recommend a no-nonsense Thermostat that does NOT switch itself ON and OFF every 5, 10 or 20 minutes

Have you tried turning the target temp on the existing thermostat up to say 30C, effectively disabling it.  I'd try this before replacing it!

My problem with my Thermostat is the ON- OFF Cycling:

I discovered that the Honeywell Home Thermostat has a maximum Cycle time of 20 minutes, this being a vast improvement of the original 8 to 10 minute setting.

Short Cycling , set by  the Water Pipe volume ( and the Added Buffer tank) , occurring when the Heat Pump is operating at minimum controlled power , is interrupted by the Thermostat.

I suspect the continual motor Switching is producing the "ink like " pipe water.

A Thermostat without a fixed Cycle time is , I think , needed with @johnmo suggesting a Thermostat with a traditional Hysteresis setting .

Others have suggested using the Samsung  external diode sensor kit , or , simply repositioning the Control led panel into my Living room and using the thermistor within the control panel.

Many thanks for reducing my blood pressure !

p.s. why does this site Only use an American dictionary with American spelling ?

Glycol or not to Glycol?

Have I got Anti freeze valves?

Predictably , I have No anti-freeze valves.

Various "expert" characters from my former "installer" , the NIC inspector,  Samsung-Dallium and the pipe cleaning expert have attacked each other in their

contradictory advice about "Glycol".

I'm now in the no glycol, but also no anti freeze valves camp. But have battery and generator, so not expecting issues.

@johnmo "I'm now in the no glycol, but also no anti freeze valves camp."

Most older  engineers advise "Glycol".

Several have said that the anti-freeze valves will deprive the Heat Pump of cooling water, while protecting the pipes !.

Most young engineers  advise Water alone, with Glycol reducing the water Specific heat!

The way I've looked at it is

You need a prolonged power cut to freeze pipes and especially the inner workings of the heat pump. So you are looking 18 to 24 hrs plus really. That has also got to coincide with below zero temperature and no power. Generator with battery very small risk.

Antifreeze valves will drain down part of the system, even if limited chance of freezing. Heat pump off until system topped up and air removed. Most people will need a plumber for that.

Glycol always robbing power, needs to be maintained and topped up to keep protection. Topping up just adds to viscosity making things worse.

Stress and Heat Pumps !

I have just received a quote from a Heat Pump repair company.

The Company is quoting for :

1) Removing the unwanted 200 l Hot Water tank.

2) Removing the unwanted Buffer tank.

3) Removing the unwanted Heat Ex changer.

4) Removing the complete second water circuit motor with expansion vessel and PRV.

5) installing an EDDI Power Management system connecting to a Solar panel array.

6) Installing a Thermino 150 Ev Thermal battery to replace the current 200 l Hot water tank.

The Thermino is apparently now supported by EST Scotland  and HES Scotland and at least one Scottish local authority.

Let me know your opinion ?

I am under ever mounting stress!

I know your opinion about Thermino, but I may have no option but to accept Thermino!

My problem with my Thermostat is the ON- OFF Cycling:

I understand, however presumably the cycling occurs only as the room temperature approaches the set temperature hence multiple suggestion to set the set temperature to 30.

What model is the thermostat?
