@mikefl hi, sorry yes i meant flow temperature. Will give this a go over the next few weeks using modbus. Agree with what you say. I already have a controller set up in home assistant controlling the flow temp with protections in place but its messy, better to input via modbus
For the others:
As for a set back on the grant controller, this can be done using the low tariff mode. Just set the weather comp curve x degrees below what you require, set the low tarrif offset to x. During set back times have the low tarrif mode turned off, and during energised periods have this turned on. You set each time period in the grant controller.
Ive been doing this since i got the heat pump a few years ago and Grant of course were no help to set this up.
Posted by: @dodgyknee@allyfish I haven't heard about the Grant smart controller. Do you have a link you can share?
Hi @dodgyknee, I hope to have more info soon. I have some basic info direct from Grant, but under condition it is embargoed until product launch. (Early 2024)
It looks a much improved user interface with remote monitoring. Not sure if it can programme a 'true' night-time set back by dropping the WC curve by a configurable offset for lower night time LWT. That's one aspect of the Aerona's functionality that is lacking, especially for rerofit with wet rads where the option to lower the LWT overnight and maybe boost early morning would be desirable. Such flexible LWT control would be the way forward with variable TOU tariffs to leverage advantage of lower rate tariffs.
House was 20.5 on average at midnight last night. Outdoor temp was 0. It got colder all night and went down to -8 at its lowest.
house is average of about 18.9 this morning. I guess that’s ok but would really want the system be able to hold its temp.
@marvinator80 Bigger radiators, better insulation, or higher flow temperature - pick your poison...

Regarding the new Aerona controller why so few zones?
Will the New Homely device be a better option?
@roamingbull you don’t want zones with a direct heat pump install…. One single zone, one constant temperature….

@hughf LOL, I have 8 zones but there is a combined LLH/volumiser too. I wish I had a simpler setup 😕 I suppose there must be a way to undo some of the unnecessary elements of this install but I could do with a plan.
@dodgyknee open all the zone valves, jumper out the thermostat wires, run the whole thing on weather compensation.
That’s pretty much it.

@hughf you make that sound quite easy! When you say open the zone valves, what does that require here. I'm afraid I'm just a couple of weeks into this adventure. I assume the jumper part is done at the thermostats?

we’re mostly underfloor, have already installed bigger upstairs radiators. House is 2016 build and well insulated.
whacked up the flow temps. Last night was -8 and house was average of about 20 when I got up this morning.
quite happy with that.
stuck the wood burner on first thing and super comfort achieved! 🙂
@marvinator80 pleased to hear it…
we’re running at 47.5@0 at the cold end of our curve and the house is nice and stable at 21.5.
All about getting that flow temperature optimised for your house.
