@derek-m thank you for the observation and guidance - I hadn’t even noticed the difference in insulation until you mentioned it. Will track and report - just putting all the advice and info into a consolidated whole ‘as we speak’

@notechknowhow

Ive downloaded the full datafile now, but i cant find anything of that installation size. That either means it isnt on the FIT register or perhaps there was an initial system that was added to after the FIT deadline stopped.

Ive attached all the TR4 installations in the attached file. Sorry its wasnt better news but I would still check with the solicitor and see if there are any receipts etc.

6.9 kWp of PV

@derek-m I have checked the pipe work flow and as you identified the darker insulation is for the thermal solar and the lighter for the Heating and Hot water. I think I have identified the 3 way valve and actuator which has a red indicator pointing to the right side as you look at it. Photos attached

I would suggest that you watch the video kindly supplied by @bontwoody and check the settings within your controller.

With regard to FIT payments I would suggest you look at the various labels on the solar PV inverter, which may indicate a date. If the solar PV system was installed when the FIT scheme was still in operation and had been registered for FIT payments, I not certain how transfer operates during a house sale. When I submit readings from my solar PV system I am required to confirm that I am the owner and that it is functioning correctly, so the previous owner would have difficulty doing so since they no longer have access to the FIT meter. Is there a FIT meter installed, since any absence would indicate that the system is not FIT registered.

@derek-m Further to your suggestion of tracking down the 3 way valve I came across these three items on the journey and wondered what was the function of each?

@bontwoody Thank you for taking the time to do the search. I really appreciate you doping that. Just looking on line (and this is all new to me) it looks like the FIT ended in 2019? From what I can find the work i) PV and by different installer ii) ASH was done in 2020 and commissioned late in that year. I'm assuming that means no FIT would be applicable?

@derek-m - should I assume an FIT meter has FIT emblazoned on it? Will go and take a look but if they are standardised be good to see what one looks like - though I think the 2019 deadline may have put pay to this.

Yes, that is the actuator with the brass part being the valve. When the system goes into DHW heating the actuator diverts the water flow from going to the heat emitters and instead sends it to the coil in the hot water cylinder.

The valve actuator is controlled by the heat pump controller, so start by checking that the controller settings are actually correctly set for DHW heating.

Spirotech, the one on the right, is a fancy water filter, I think pretty much all systems have a spirotech or something similar.  To get any particles, gunk, rust out of the system water.  Don't know yet how necessary they are; my old gas system ran happily for 15 years without any fancy filters but there is always the possibility higher water quality is a good idea for heat pump systems.

The middle one is a pressure gauge, but what pressure it measures I can't tell unless I know which pipe it is attached to.

The left hand one looks like a pressure relief valve of some sort, is the pipe it is attached to bypassing something?  Our system has one too, but I can't recall which water line it is on.

@notechknowhow I think that is the reason why there is not FIT entry then. Shame, but i guess the owners already had thermal solar and didnt see the point/have the means to add PV as well at the time.

@notechknowhow if the breaker below is for the solar PV then that is a generation meter above.  It's just the same as mine on a fit eligible system.

However that doesn't mean it's fit eligible (although absence of such a meter would more or less prove It isn't.

If the solar PV was done in 2020 it won't be fit eligible but you can still get paid for export, up to about 15p per kWh with octopus.

It's reading 17MWh which is consistent with being 3-5 yrs old given you said it's 5.5kW peak.

4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
