@lewb, wow that's quite the price tag. Would definitely, if you can, get a few more quotes. Since you're considering GES's Caernarfon 18kW ASHP, have they not recommended a potential installer? It would be interesting to see who @davef is using.
Please keep us posted on developments. What I would suggest, if it's not too much trouble, is that you start a new thread on the forums to talk about your project(s). I would recommend you start one for air source heat pumps, one for battery storage, one for solar PV, etc. in the various sections of these forums, where you can update us on each of the specific portions of your project. That way we'll also be able to address points specifically to each of the things you're getting installed.

@lewb Hi, So far I have one quote from Global Energy ( only a Thurso) who included installation , One from Alto Energy who took over from Ice Energy( original suppliers of the GSHP who went bust) based on a Mitsubishi and I'm waiting for one from Heacol based in Ulverston who came to have a look. Two others fairly local (Carnforth and Penrith) contacted through Vaillant haven't replied , and one wanted an upto date EPC or MCS before he could quote which would have cost £100. Your project sounds a big one and I assume you will be aware of Salt corrosion if your near the coast so the Global quote includes for a stainless casing.
Hi to everybody.
Have been following the YouTube video's for some time, and really enjoyed them. Always food for thought.
I moved into a new home in December, with construction taking nearly 12 months due to you know what. It is a timber framed, red cedar clad bungalow of 320 sqm.
Planning was granted at appeal (only took 11 years) on the basis of permitted development, so the new bungalow and separate garage block, had to resemble the two chicken sheds that were demolished, so low pitch roof, and small windows on the side of the building facing the neighbours.
High levels of insulation, double glazing, and complete underfloor heating all run off a Mitsubishi 14Kw ASHP. Also a 210 litre Mitsubishi pressurised hot water tank.
Coming from a 40 year old house with a gas combi boiler has been a fairly steep learning curve. Not helped by the fact that the system wasn't commissioned correctly and the initial settings were all over the place. This is what happens when a builder buys the kit, and it is wired and plumbed by his contractors who have no background in air source heat pumps.
Learning all the time!
@bodger, welcome and we look forward to learning from your experiences.

Hi John here.
I'm based in Rushden in Northamptonshire. We have 6.2kW/p of solar on the roof, a Tesla Powerwall 2 and a myenergi eddi and zappi v1. We have 2 EVs; Tesla Model 3 Performance and Hyundai Kona 64kW.
Keen to learn more about ASHP especially around electricity consumption. Looking to change our current 20 year old gas system boiler which feeds our wet radiator system. I want to be more energy efficient, so have been improving the fabric of our house to reduce heat loss.
Currently with Octopus on the Agile tariff for electricity and std tariff for gas.
Welcome @john-tisbury - looking forward to answer any questions you may have about ASHPs. Please feel free to post questions in the ASHP section.

Welcome John.
I’m a subscriber on your YouTube channel and enjoy your videos.
After watching a recent video of yours I think you’ve found the right place here to explore alternatives to a conventional gas boiler. Given your efficient solar setup/production and home improvements I think an ASHP could work really well with your property.

@George thank you George. You've found me! 😀 I've been doing lots of research and investigations into alternatives. As you rightly say, this is a great resource to explore alternatives. Appreciate you watching my videos too and for subscribing.
Hello, lovely to find you all here. I am new to this malarkey but I have been interested for a long time in an attempt to warm up my 1950s bungalow. Finally got an ASHP (LG R32) installed in November, along with solar PV, and next week getting the solar thermal (Green Voucher finally came through). First RHI payment scheduled for July. Also had double glazing, underfloor and loft insulation installed, and cavity wall insulation (carbon microbead). It's been a long and costly process...
Signed up to Octopus Agile for incoming and awaiting the outgoing bit. Failed to get on the Powervault trial. Discovered thermal batteries (Sunamp) and now trying to decide whether to get additional solar PV with or without a battery. Also would love a Vortex Skybrator.
Still not sure about how to best operate the ASHP. Husband always chilly, whereas I am a woman of a certain age. Don't like it being 20 degrees at night.
Any tips gratefully received. There's so much to learn...
@pumpo-sorcerer, welcome to the forums, and you guys have gone all in with an ASHP, solar PV and battery storage. That's awesome. When are considering install the solar PV and batteries?
Would like to hear more about your Sunamp thoughts and considerations, and never heard of Vortex Skybrator - will google that later tonight. What size solar PV system are you guys considering?
Please add a comment about your ASHP on the ASHP thread and I'd like to ask about your thermostats and controls, and what calls for heat.
