Daikin Heat Pump Cycling Frequency?
I am monitoring my heat pump's compressor start frequency during the colder months, the only monitoring I have is a "raspberry pi" and DS18b20 temperature probes. Currently I am plotting and logging the compressor's F-gas pipe temperatures.
Please can anyone advise if this is a sound method or should I install a Shelly energy monitor ??
I think your current method of logging F-gas pipe temperatures using a Raspberry Pi and DS18B20 sensors gives you useful data, but it has limitations if you’re trying to accurately track compressor cycling.
F-gas temperature changes can indicate compressor activity, but they don’t give you a clear picture of power draw, start/stop frequency or how hard the compressor is working. If you want precise compressor start frequency and run durations, a Shelly EM or similar power monitor on the heat pump’s supply circuit would be much more effective.
With the Shelly, you’d get real-time power consumption data, making it easy to track exactly when the compressor starts and stops, rather than inferring it from temperature changes.
