Is this a bad installation and is there something wrong with my Samsung heat pump?
@hughf I had my lid off the control box because it tripped the breaker, I think those wires were sitting on the lever. It’s fairly untidy and told that it’s ok and normal.
the room stat wires are the wrong way around on the panel and wondering if they are polarity conscious
or any way is fine.
It's untidy because the installer has obviously not wanted to cut the wires too short.
That's not a problem on its own.
It's a shame that the enclosure into which all those flexible cables are expected to fit, doesn't have a row of flex-clamps.
That would've been better because the clamps would grip the outer white insulation, thereby allowing the inner conductors to be presented in a neater fashion.
There's no numbers or labels visible on the 26-way row of screw terminals.
Is there a label/definition for each terminal on the cover which you've removed?
Is the breaker which tripped the one in the photo?

@transparent there are details on the terminals just hard to see. The wires into some of these have split the strands and bits poking out. Crimped connections would have been better.
the breaker in the photo went off because the cables were sitting on it I think, the guys were in there the day before. Are you able to say if the polarity of the room stat wires are important top right, blue and brown wrong way around.
looks like installer has to change pipework and bits, it’s 40watt pumps and spec is 100watt but flow is only 29lpm and Samsung want 46lpm. If converting to 35mm pipe as spec from samsung do all the valves etc need changed as well. Currently running 28mm primary pipe.
Room stat/call for heat wires are polarity insensitive, it’s just a switch.

Have you decided what you’re going to do about this install, who you’re going to complain to?

@hughf they are trying to repair it and it’s always best not to escalate at this juncture. If it’s repaired then I guess we both go off in different directions happy. Currently if they continue installing like this it has to end badly. It’s not being monitored properly, I watched them taking loads of photos during the install and if they are going to MCS for a desktop review then shame on them, you guys spotted all the faults so they should have also.
keep up the good work lads 👍
If they don’t fix it, I’d just do it yourself - the Samsung is a piece of piss to install.
Buffer tank in the bin, TRVs in the bin, Samsung controller as the room stat, single 3 port diverter valve, done…

@david999 I hope you can resolve this successfully because the complaints process isn't quick or easy. To date, I haven't heard of anyone successfully going through the process and "winning." I may have already shared the full complaints process, but from what I've seen in numerous cases, the consumer codes and MCS seem toothless to act and just deflect everything.

@editor sounds like the financial ombudsman they are much the same. Perhaps name and shame is the route.
the heat geek runs courses and if you don’t maintain standards you are taken of their list of approved installers. Plenty business out there a lot of it local authority work and this could damage their ability to get work if it continues with councils facing big bills to put heating systems right. If mine is a typical example then a lot going to have issues.
it’s going to be a repeat of the 70s cavity insulation disaster.
@editor I was at the Exeter tool fair/electricians show a couple of weeks ago and MCS had a fancy booth there. I was tempted to go and ask them what exactly it was that they did 🤣
Perhaps I’ll have the gumption to do it at the NEC next month.

There might be a queue @hughf
I still think @david999 should be involving his local councillors.
1: They lead the organisation which issues Letters of Compliancy for Part-L of the Building Regs
2: Those with affiliations to political parties will soon be campaigning on behalf of the PPC for their constituency.
It's the MPs who eventually get elected who provide the remit under which MCS operates.
So no candidate will want to be campaigning to support a system which lets down the voters they're talking to.
It's our responsibility to ensure that this information is in their hands/brains before the general election gets called.
