Posted by: @transparentPosted by: @old_scientistI have an Emlite ECA2 MID-approved meter fitted which records solar generation
I've looked up what that is.
It must be on the AC output of your inverter.Having such a MID certified meter is a requirement for exporting to the grid.
But a meter on the inverter output would not have spotted the problem I'd discovered.
It only records what the inverter has successfully handled.
Right, got you.
Samsung 12kW gen6 ASHP with 50L volumiser and all new large radiators. 7.2kWp solar (south facing), Tesla PW3 (13.5kW)
Solar generation completely offsets ASHP usage annually. We no longer burn ~1600L of kerosene annually.
@old_scientist As another example of errors / differences of opinion on amount of juice produced, here is my Emlite meter and also the figutes from the Enphase software and both were commissioned on the same day. Regards, Toodles.

And for those of us without an automatic irrigation system that translates into "didn't have to water the garden". That's a lot of silver lining to them thar clouds.

@editor Well last MAY i know was not the greatest for solar for me, but this April already beat last May.
16kw Samsung TDM ASHP. 8.4kw PV, power optimizers 20×420watt panels 6kw SolarEdge inverter.
Well, as i was hoping, this month over here just smashed every record I had for April, and even my best May numbers from 2023 (929kw). So now that the solar went to sleep, it clocked in 51kw today. The highest of the year so far, and the grand total was just shy of a 1000kw 998kw. How did he sun do in your area?
16kw Samsung TDM ASHP. 8.4kw PV, power optimizers 20×420watt panels 6kw SolarEdge inverter.
@andris my setup is non-optimal as East facing and low pitch. But still achieved exceptional numbers. Prod similar to May & July last year.
962kwh produced.
Much more importantly this was assisted by my move to Intelligent Octopus Go earlier this year. In April:
Imported 1066kwh @ sub 8pkwh including heating, HW, car .... and filling batteries overnight for part forced export in day
Exported 1029kwh @15p kwh
Listed Grade 2 building with large modern extension.
LG Therma V 16kw ASHP
Underfloor heating + Rads
8kw pv solar
3 x 8.2kw GivEnergy batteries
1 x GivEnergy Gen1 hybrid 5.0kw inverter
Manual changeover EPS
MG4 EV
Awesom.
Yes having great import tariff is supper important.
I made a change as well left octopus as I was on noctopus GO (don't have an EV).But it only gave me 5 hours of 8.5p/kw.
However Eon Next gave me Eon Next drive. 6.7p/kw from midnight till 7am. Then 24p the rest of the day. I also moved my export to them instead of the 15p I used to get at Octopus they give me 16.5p/kw. I known it doesn't sound much but it all adds up. I exported 4000kw last year that gives me £60 wich pays for more then a month of my electric bill. What this tariff did for me that now, form April till October instead of my usage costing money I make money wich helps to cover the Winter bills. Before, with the old tarrif I could only achieve making money instead of costing me, from May till September. I hope that makes sense.
Have an other record breaking sunny May 🌞

@andris yes, not a case of one size fits all. But crucial to find best option.
In my case I exported just 2585kwh last year but already 1491 this year. Target is to get that up around 7000 this year and earn £1000+
If I can keep imports at target sub 8p I'm hoping I will be very close to nil net cost of power for entire year. Inc cost of ev, ashp usage etc.
Of course capital costs have been significant and should not be ignored!

@tim441 yes. I very true! My investment to the solar cost just over 10K i don't have battery. I did have a dilemma battery on no battery. I have decided aginst it as I felt with tarrifs getting better for export let them store my energy also the initial investment felt huge and the return seemed really far away. With this set up I will have all my money back from the solar after 5 years. I did get the 5K interest free loan for the solar I am paying that for 10 years £42.20. But it should be i theory viheted by year 5 if that makes sense.

March and April have been very good this year compared to last (which is as far back as i can compare)
