Scottish power blocking install
Has anyone had issues with Scottish power, im trying to gef a Grant 13kw ASHP installed but SP are saying it will draw too much current, my current electric boiler is 12kw, the new boilel only uses 5.3kw max running power but SP are saying the issue is with the Peak current it will draw, I emailed Grant and have searched but cannot find any info on Peak current.
Any sugestions
Im thinking people see 13kw and think this is the electric power of a boiler.
Im getting funding so im really worried they will continue to say no.
Do you need their permission?
I think you can notify them afterwards
2. Connect & notify
This scenario applies to properties with new Maximum Demand (MD) ≤60A and meeting all other relevant requirements. In this scenario, you can connect the device(s) and should notify the DNO by completing the heat pump connection form within 28 days of the installation.

@benseb thank you for this I will pass it on to the company dealing with it, Im sure its an error but its getting through to them, they have been trying to convince them its less power than what I have but they are insisting the Peak power is too high.
Ty
@waylander that does make sense as they will plan for the worst and look at the peak usage.
but if you can avoid informing them prior it’s not an issue.

@benseb just need to try convince the installation company who also are doing internal wall insulation, they also got my grant, problem is they may not want ti be seen to be bending rules.
This was starting tomorrow and I only found out 18:00 on Friday, I have half wrecked my house in preperation for the work so im stressed out my box.
Ty for assistance
It’s not bending the rules though if it’s less than 60amp. You simply don’t need to inform them prior
Mines a 14kw and we didn’t pre notify them.
good luck!

An electric induction motor starting in Direct On Line (DOL) draws about 3 times its normal operating current for a brief period of time until it gets up to speed. Therefore if your proposed ASHP were to draw 5.3kW when it starts it could in theory draw approximately 66 Amps for a brief period of time.
It is my understanding that the compressor motor in modern ASHP's does not start in DOL, but employs what is called a soft start, whereby it limits the starting current supplied to the motor. Also I don't believe that the compressor would be operating at full load when it starts, which would also limit the starting current.
I would suggest that you get in touch with the technical department at Grant, and get them to confirm the maximum starting current for your selected model.
It may also be necessary to get SP to clarify why they deem your selected heat pump will draw too much current, with the necessary documentary evidence to support their claim.
I hope that you get your problem suitably resolved.
The other thing that I forgot to mention. Since you are having additional insulation installed, do you actually require a 13kW ASHP?
Just found this basically stating the 13kw unit must go before the DNO,
Not sure if the company will install the 10kw unit instead If I get knocked back.
Ty to all for your assistance
- Both the 6kW and 10kW models are Connect & Notify approved which means they can be installed and connected to the Grid without prior approval from the DNO - this can simplify and speed up the installation process (the DNO must be notified after commissioning)
Do you have 3 phase electric? Just because the 3ph Ecodan is approved for Connect and Notify.

I'm rather surprised that your installer did not mention this requirement when they selected a 13kW heat pump. Do they actually know what they are doing?
